Big drop off from 7th to 8th on that list.

Carlton should be stoked with that - keep on improving and they'll be around top in a couple of years.

Although it does give an idea of supporter basis, I don't read too much into singular club crowd numbers. For example look at Collingwood/ Richmond, they play the huge blockbusters at the MCG agianst the likes of each other and Carlton, Essendon etc where the away team has a big percentage of the crowd as well, and then claim it as their home crow number. There's not many other leagues in the world where this would be the case.

Hawks have seemingly fallen off a cliff without finals and success. Probably explains the ‘topping up’ list management.

Didn’t Hawthorn get 31,000 against Gold Coast? The Hawks home crowds in Melbourne this year have been decent except for the game against GWS.

I don’t recall Hawthorn playing Essendon, Carlton, Sydney or Adelaide at the MCG. Instead home games against WB, North and Gold Coast played a part in the low averages.

So Collingwood has big crowd numbers because they play blockbusters against the likes of Richmond and Richmond has big crowd numbers because they play blockbusters against the likes of Collingwood...

This is extremely subjective..

So let's cancel some out...

Geelong, Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, Port, West Coast, Melbourne are all on both.. .so let's take them off. Take a look at the 5 remaining teams for each... Suns and GWS probably cancel each other out.. but it speaks for itself why Richmond is higher. Nice boost by Hawthorn and Carlton supporters. And Colllingwood gets stuck with 4 of the bottom 6 home attended teams of that list above with an interstate team in Freo which has 0 Melbourne based supporters.

Lol righto makes no attempt to make up for time slot differences

So Collingwood has big crowd numbers because they play blockbusters against the likes of Richmond and Richmond has big crowd numbers because they play blockbusters against the likes of Collingwood...

Yes, my point was that teams like Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, Carlton etc constantly play year on year in big blockbusters against each other bringing in the crowds along with their other crowds. Now compared to each other of course that cancels out and shows they each have the big crowds but different to the rest of the league.
