The Botham/Flintoff/Stokes effect is back again, get destroyed by an all rounder and get seduced by the temptation to pick our own even though they’re not up to it. Smashing lower grade attacks around the park is one thing, but if Marsh is picked his flimsy defence will be penetrated easily by Broad and Archer.

You know you want it, Australia needs an all rounder and there is no one better than Mitch!!!

Not sure if this was tongue in cheek or not. If serious, I don't think it will happen but if it did, I wouldn't be vehemently opposed. He hasn't really done enough to justify his place in the team though. I wish he had. In fact I wish he'd cemented himself in it long ago because he would make a much better captain than Paine.

Is anyone actually surprised by the Marsh news?

Australia has had a decade long hard on for all rounders despite the Country lacking a genuinely good option in the role for most of that time.

Australia just had it's ass torn to shreds by one of if not the best all rounder in the world right now just to remind the selectors what a hard on they have for them

The selectors straight up did not want to pick Wade and he was always going to be on a very short leash.

If its the case ...Yeah why not pick an allrounder who averages over 50 with the bat against the poms and 35 with the ball.....seems like a no brainer to me with starc coming back in

From the articles Cricket Australia have put out looks like the XI will be
Warner
Khawaja
Labuschange
Smith
Head
Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

the team looks okay .....the issue atm is our left handers have not got a clue against the poms...they are really struggling...3RH in the top six looks good

marnus deserves a crack at 3....smith no brainer at 4...head they like.....Marsh gives us the defensive option with starc in the side

side is balanced looks good...... I dont mind usman as an opener....they could go harris....but I reckon the will give usman one last shot

Only five specialist batsmen leaves me a little uneased.

yeah i see the concern but the way I look at it...is that we are anyway with only 5 batters due to the amount of left handers in the top six atm ....so we are not losing out anyway...and with starc who looks like coming back in the extra seamer in marsh is a bonus anyway

Can we not?

Please don't pick Marsh. We've been down this road how many times, and it hasn't worked.

Who else have they got? All our batsmen are talentless hacks other than smith and labrat. Warner looks to be finished, being dismissed for less than 10 runs in 5 out of his 6 innings.

I wouldn't pick Marsh for the 4th test. I would still have Harris open, and drop Wade for Smith.

But Marsh has scored runs when asked, so I can't fault him on that.

The 4th test is gonna be fascinating. I get the sense the poms have played their GF and might find it hard to back it up. But, the question also exists whether we are broken or can we bounce back?

Gonna be a great 1st session

Nope. This series has 1981 written all over it. Australia win the first test. Rain ruins the second which ends in a draw. Then the third test - at Headingley - where England win the unwinnable. Or rather, Australia lose the unloseable. It happens on the back of a blistering century from a controversial all-rounder.

Any of this sounding familiar?

Ben Stokes secretly captained England for the 1st two tests?
