Is a shame about Garlett. Reckon his instinct got stifled by structures and then pushed to half back zapped his confidence. Could have had a good impact in a functioning forward line IMO

I figure Jack Martin is a cream player and isn't showing his full potential in a bad side and is worth more than an early 2nd rounder as some are mentioning. If we get him for that then great!

Partially, yes. Great mark for his size, but mostly because he's a fantastic user of the ball, perfect link up player going from defensive 50 to forward 50.

Dunno who the coach is, seems nice enough.

"Power struggle" (their words) seems very much overblown... SOS would have said no because he doesn't see a use for an ageing player on big coin. Teague wants him due to a strong previous relationship and the dire immediate need for a small with some goal sense. Further to that the club want Betts for his "bums on seats" impact, and possibly for a coaching/development role down the line.
When the cost of recruiting him will only be a late pick, SOS would no doubt acquiesce to Teague's wishes in this instance. I don't think SOS would be at all fazed about it, he's got bigger priorities than Betts this trade period.

I agree with that. Could have been anything coming into a Teague run side. Unfortunately lost confidence and that’s that. Poor kid reckon in a strong side would have been mint

If a player of Jack Martin wants to take his talents to your club, you don't knock it back.
Somehow SOS will get the deal done with his way of getting what he wants via draft pics swapping/flopping of picks etc.
Also the fact us getting Jack Martin would really tick off Essendon supporters is something I find greatly appealing !

I thought he was 28? I think 3 years away is a good estimate, I have been wrong many times before.
The final game against Geelong, admittedly at a bog at a stadium we rarely played at, showed to me we are still a fair way enough from constantly matching it with the League's best teams on a very regular basis.
We need to get 100 games into the likes of Paddy Dow and Lochie O'Brien ASAP, even if they do sometimes makes mistakes in the seniors, keep on letting them find their own way into the seniors. I am very bullish on the upside of both of those kids, they just need a little bit more time.

Yes, I agree, most players would be depth if having to compete for a spot against that trifecta. Although, I think Martin may become a HBFer if he does join us. .
