If it came down to an argument between coach and list manager, I'd want the list manager to win.

I dare say the coach would be more myopic, purely focusing on winning and perhaps relationships. But the list manager is focusing on list balance, demographics, $, contracts, trade cost, everything.
It IS a habit.
You've gone all serious on us, now that it's trade season! LOL

Even if Buddy does finish up earlier than his contract the Swans still have to include the remainder of his contract in their salary cap.
That was always the plan though, from what I heard.

Buddy wanted 10 mill over the rest of his career, 2 mill a year over 5 years was the suggestion. Swans said they couldn't fit that under the cap but could do 10 mill over 9 to spread it out and if he doesn't play the full contract then they just pay out the rest. They were also expecting COLA and the cap increases to diminish the impact on the cap by the time he stopped playing.

Yeah, but you structure the payments so as Buddy finishes, Joe's payments ramp

Think if he had his time over, Buddy would have signed on with the Giants. Would probably have added another flag or two to his resume by now..

Tim Kelly is a super player, so I can understand their stance to an extent, but they knew he was a flight-risk when they drafted him anyway so that previous argument goes awash somewhat.

How can any Cats fan honestly cheer on Telly this weekend, knowing he wants out of the club?

Possibly by as soon as next season, we will start seeing mid season player/star departures from clubs to elsewhere, and I hate it.

Can't think of anything worse for our sport than a mid-season trade period.

Mid-season draft, no worries. Throw an opportunity to a handful of state players. There'll be pushback from state league clubs, but if the AFL reimburses them financially in some way, or the recruiting club has to send one of their own listed (read: depth) players to the state side, I could see it working.

Having players jumping ship from a struggling side to join whichever teams look good for the flag in Round 12, that's gonna be all sorts of awful.

Reckon they could hash out a mature discussion.

SOS: Don't want Betts, too old, costs a fair chunk of money, just another bloke I have to replace in 12 months.
Teague: Hey SOS, our forward line is a mess, if you can get Eddie over on a one year deal for a packet of chips, it's gonna go a long way towards getting our structures right.
SOS: I'd rather not, got my eye on Tiny McTinyhands with Pick 75.
Teague: Surely you can find an extra 5th round pick and we can have both. Then Eddie can show Tiny McTinyhands the ropes and we'll both look like geniuses.
SOS: Sounds good. Young Reid, wanna give me your fifth round pick for our seventh rounder? It's a good deal, I swear.

Yep, I think (and hope) they would agree.

I don't think it would be the hardest thing to sort out; but personally I would want the list manager to be making less compromises than the coach.

Also, re Tiny McTinyhands: DO NOT WANT. He looks like Fumble McFumbleface-y. And I should know, I have watched 0.00248 minutes of U18 YouTube footage this year!

I come in peace. S.Gray would be an awesome pick up.

Doesn't help that he has been played as our key forward for the past couple of years (if you've watched Port games you know what I mean).

We played Eddie Betts as our FF for a few years. We know exactly what you mean.

Yeah i was wondering if that's what is going on...
Tippett didn't go quite as plan, Buddy seems to be coming to an end sooner than they would like
.. leaves them with Sam Reid and a few kids, at least tall forward-wise
Re the bold, I have it on good authority that Swans are heavily reliant on always having a hulking forward oozing with sex appeal. This has worked wonders in the past resulting in a spike in percentage of Women members and supporters of varying sexual preferences.. Daniher is Phase 3 of this master plan.

Has always been a whipping boy on our board. Not the most talented but will give you 110% most weeks. Doesn't help that he has been played as our key forward for the past couple of years (if you've watched Port games you know what I mean). In the guts he is a serious accumulator (end of 2015 for reference). in the right forward setup he'd be a genuine threat.
At what price?

But it's not the fumbling hands of Tiny Mctinyhands that we'd be drafting him for, it's the ball use with his feet...he makes Beckham look like an amateur.

Might be why they want Daniher now so they can front load 1-2 years before the buddy payout

I'd say they want Daniher now so they can play him high and Buddy deep. They have Buddy for several more years. I think they need to reduce his workload now. With Joe, they can not only manage the backend years of buddy right, but the front end years of McCartin and Blakey who are still pups and versatile enough to learn the ropes around the ground for a few years in roles as required.

Swans are smart operators. Like the Storm.

You mean like we did with Gibbs?

Pretty sure Gil said that the AFL will pick up the bill.
When the contract was signed it was actually the complete opposite, the AFL stated they must include his salary in the salary cap due to concerns about him playing out the rest of the deal.
Who actually pays Buddy the money is another question but it has previously been confirmed that Sydney would maintain the hit to their cap.

Buddy's going to have to learn how to mark then.

It's heading that way pal, and as I say, I hate it.
