All these jurnos are stealing barass info lol
Barass posts "water is wet" in rumour file.

Next day, journos headline with "Water set to be Wet".
Followed by "It is believed..."

Do we need to spend all of our mattress money this year or do we have another year to spend it?
Hidden mattress money just in case you were wondering......
I think I’ve read somewhere in this thread that it needs to be spent this year, if so, why aren’t we making it virtually impossible for Jack Mario Martin to say no?
Or is SOS playing 22 dimensional chess?
I might be wrong and if anyone knows please correct me, but I think its a three year rolling cap on the 5%. We have been paying 95% of the salary cap consistantly for a while but we can only pay 105% of the salary cap for three years, even if we payed under for much longer. Under that logic Sos has a 15% "war chest", nearly 1.9 Mil, he has been saving to front load a guanine A grade.

SOS would be looking at it as 2x firsts for Papley, Martin, Cameron and 1x second rounder
That sounds pretty decent to me.

Hard to see the Club giving up 2 firsts for Papley (especially if one is pick 8. Could we split that pick into 2 picks in the teens?). Having said that, I am in the camp that if you have the opportunity to land a player who will make your team significantly better, you get the deal done, even if it means overpaying (Adelaide might have won a flag if they'd been prepared to pay overs for Gibbs first time around. The Chicago Cubs won their first World Series for 108 years by paying massively for a closer who they lost for nothing to free agency half a season later. Worth it? Absolutely!).

Also worth remembering that Silvagni seems (my opinion could be wrong) to look at the net result of our trading periods more so than each individual trade. So as some others have mentioned, if we can get an early 2nd back as part of a separate deal (Papley or someone else), that we can then use to trade for someone like Martin (who's probably worth a late first/early second, a pick we currently don't have), then SOS will factor that in.

If you're prepared to give up two 1st Rounders you are. I also reckon one wouldn't need more than a nominal pick (6th Rounder) to get Cameron. If you're prepared to be patient, you may even pick him up as a DFA.

I agree on Cameron. Not fussed if we have him or Phillips personally. Meh.

On Papley, no-one is suggesting 2 first rounders for Papley. The most was 2 1st rounders with Paps, Cameron and 2 2nds coming back.

Personally, i hate this lumbering of Picks as 1st Rounders or 2nd Rounders etc. Each Pick has a number. The issue of Sydney apparently wanting more than our 1st Pick arose while Adelaide were firmly entrenched in the eight. They ended up 11th which makes our Pick a lot more attractive. I think that(Pick 8) will largely get it done if he wants out and Sydney land Daniher.

I'd pay Pick 8 and probably a touch more in this draft for Papley(for our needs). I'd also pay 2 1st Rounders for Papley if they were two late 1st rd'ers with something coming back. It's all in the detail.

Only twelve pages today. Interest is waning. That latest rumour concerning Papley. My resident advisor on draft and list management issues has taught me that if we agreed to that trade Carlton would need to be certified. Swans can go jump off the Sydney Harbour Bridge if they think we’re going to facilitate their trade to get Daniher. I could be swayed if the Swans threw Florent into that deal.

Big picture - we add Papley and Martin to our side irrespective of picks - it fills two massive holes.

Considering the youth already on our list, if we lose this and next years first, I'm not overly bothered - it's all about the context of how our list overall is improved. At the end of this trading period, we want it to be better than it is now.

At some point in the next few years - we're also going to have players wanting to go .... and that's how we can get back into the draft if necessary.

Papley's price is going up by the day :)

I want Papley but we have to hang onto next years first, as it may be required for one of the last pieces of the puzzle. Second rounders don't count.
Foe me any combination of Papley & Martin that swallows up two firsts, makes for a problem....and one I don't see us walking into.

Spot on Sieg.. a trade period needs to be looked at as a whole, and not the sum of it's parts. We may 'overpay' on one deal, and make like bandits on another.

I think this is due in part to the fact that we've won jack shit in 20 years, so supporters want to 'win' everything.. every trade, every free kick count, the toss of the coin, who has the best looking jumper, who had the best banner etc. :D

We have Dow, Setterfield, Fisher, SPS, Stocker, and Cuningham who could all become gun midfielders in the next few years.

How many players on our list have the potential to become gun small forwards?
Nah let’s just get more mids because they get 25 touches a game.

Small forwards only get 10-15 so they’re not as good.

Exactly! it's what you get back in total not one isolated trade if by the end of the trade period it was out 2019 and 2020 firsts In papley,Martin Cameron then I'm happy with that
As we know from history, this is exactly how SOS views trade period - sum of all parts, rather than trades in isolation.
I read that the Crows may be interested in signing Bugg... should we be annoyed if that occurs and they actually get some football out of him?
They are welcome to him and his social media influencer company. Things mustn't be going as great as he expected if this is the case though.
