Well done, life is a whole bunch of learning experiences. We all have things we’d want to take back if we could, kudos foe owning it 👍

Cheers Abba

Mate the only thing you needed to apologize for was the Thomas remark which was over the top,I do not find you a negative poster at all I find agreement in a lot of things you say.

You admitted you made a mistake as we all do so time to move on,Go the Pies.

In the spirit of this thread I should apologise for focusing on the words of your post, rather than the spirit, as a vehicle for my own meanderings. Now we have that out of the way lets focus on your words and subvert the hippie nature of this thread.

Firstly, you are absolutely wrong in suggesting I am absolutely wrong as I have never been and will never be so.

More importantly, why would posters consistently post negative drivel? Three reasons I can think of are: because that is the way they view the world/the pies, to gain attention by taking the controversial view or to purposefully undermine the pies. Blasting them for posting in that way is not going to achieve anything; in fact, for the latter two it serves their purpose. Pass over their posts, watch what happens when they get no airtime. Ironic that an brief inane negative post on this forum gets way more attention than a brief inane positive.

Now if our collective voice can have an impact why has it failed so miserably during my lifetime. I did my bit, have you mob failed me? Truth is I blame the volume of our collective voice for uniting the great unwashed against us, for making every media comment – positive or negative – sell and for fuelling the overbalanced egos that the pies have always struggled with. Weight of expectation can be just as heavy as stupid criticisms. I saw the light and stop believing years ago but then in the last 15 mins of 2018 I stumbled and believed. You know where that ended and will be glad to know I give us no chance this year.

If our players/coaches have their snouts in social media and let it impact on them then we need new ones. It wouldn’t surprise me if the pies also pay SV to do the opposite of what he does here on other club’s sites. This is the modern way and we’d be naïve to think it isn’t also happening in the football world with so much money at stake.

Finally, this whole thing about questioning the legitimacy of a poster. What joins us all here is that we are pies supporters. What can be a worse insult than to tell a fellow poster they are not that or not worthy of that. Who the hell has the right to define what is or isn’t a Collingwood supporter?

I’m not sure what your last sentence was about 42, I have my tongue firmly in my cheek 90% of the time. From my ignorant viewpoint it is so goddam simple. If the “for” mob just ignored the “against” mob most of the drivel would evaporate. It seems to me many of the “for” mob have the same anger/disappointment post a loss, they just take it out on the “against” mob rather than the club or players.
Could you explain how we have failed so horribly during your life time? Sure it could always be better, but we are thereabouts most years. We dug ourselves out when we were on the verge of bankruptcy, no other club could do that so quickly. On and off the field we have performed well in recent times.

As I stated, I have no issue with well reasoned criticism...I have an issue when posters have no original thought of their own, and just pedal the same nonsense week in week out. Go back through the posts, it was horrific the amount of crap being spurted in season. I say in season because there is little that can be done to make change in terms of players, and you’d be mad to change a coach when the players were clearly still playing for him. The players and club have gone on record saying that they were impacted by the negative external noise, and guess what, that was because of YOU!

I was fed up arguing with Carlton supporters and our own over that period, so I’ve just lumped you all in the same basket. Fair weather supporters, turning on your own...I see no difference. I will continue to refer to you and similar types as closet Carlton supporters in the hope that might drive you away from the nonsensical madness that follows a turn over, missed tackle or lost game.

OK, I've just read the OP and commend wicksy for taking the time and trouble to post it. Funnily enough, I virtually never go into the game day thread due to its rampart toxicity, but just happened to tiptoe into it on a whim just when wicksy made that terrible post that he outed himself on. I immediately logged out in disgust, vowing never to bother making the mistake of entering the gameday thread ever again, so kudos for his apology.

While I read most threads here, I do most of my posting on the main board usually on non Collingwood related footy topics, which I enjoy. I find on the Pies board there's some very excellent, informative posters (e.g. the training updates) and some who provide laughter and levity (sadly a couple have recently left) but overall I find there's too much negativity (some negativity is fine but too many are only negative all the time and even outright abusive of some players) for my own personal taste.

Orright mate, I can see you have a good handle on me and what I post. Hopefully you will feel ok if I say go pies. You won't hear me screaming from the lounge room tonight but guarantee you most of Geevo will.
I did get personal... both with the players and other forum members. It was not on.
Re: Blairy
He was not best 22 in his final year or two... you're aboslutely spot on.
Did he deserve the constant barrage of s**t he copped on here though? Probably not.
Wicksy, you got it wrong about the Blair, J. Project, like most supporters. Blair wanted to be and believed he was 6,4. Bucks and the selection committee followed suit. Unfortunately we, the supporter base didn't so it didn't come to pass that Blair was 6,4. We failed him with our lack of faith and negative viewpoint.

Personally I thought he was best 22 or thereabouts, just not the future. He never deserved to be the whipping boy, who does? Someone has to take the possie though, its a tradition.

Dear Collingwood Bigfooty members,

I have just finished watching the documentary that aired tonight (Collingwood from the inside out) and I am feeling deep regret for the way I have acted towards the players and other forum members of this great club during the last few months.

From bagging out fringe players to some of the disgusting comments I condoned and made last week regarding one of our players and a potential injury he may have had.
I made an arse of myself and have no doubt ended up on many ignore lists - and rightly so.

I am sorry. I am sorry for forgetting how human these people are. I am sorry for forgetting that we are all here for the same reason and we should all consider ourselves a family.
My pledge from this point on is to not be fair weather. To not be consistently negative and angry at how many injuries we have or that we only won by x amount of points instead of by 10 goals. To never bag out and turn on our own - and that includes us here.

I love this club so God damn much.....Regardless of what happens on Friday night or for the rest of the season, let's get behind these boys.... We can make amends for the final game of last season. And if not, then that's ok too. We'll come back better and stronger in 2020.

Love you all.
Wicksy
Nicely done.

With 75 likes, it shows people understand where you're coming from.
I used to think 10 likes was a good effort, I've got to lift my game.

I am really sorry that something I posted had this affect on you.
I was using it as my venting mechanism and it wasn't good enough.
Certainly not how I would like to bring my son up to be that's for sure.

With any luck, if things turn pear shaped tonight, the gameday thread and those in it can be a little more forgiving.

I am hoping to just use the game thread for reading only. Or being critical without getting personal or abusive to players. Let's hope it is the kind of game which excites only thoughts of goodness and niceness and not frustration and revenge!

I don't know how people have the time to engage the game day threads AND watch the game. Not that I venture anywhere near the game day thread too often.

I used to, mainly during breaks or to cheer a mark/goal, or to vent an umpiring decision, but never do it anymore during a game. Not good for my mental health.

This thread and the sad passing of Danny Frawley is a timely reminder that we are all human, all have our weaknesses, and are all vulnerable.

Always good to try and avoid abusing players umpires coaches or other punters because you can never underestimate the pressures some people feel.

And even better to apologise if you think you overstepped the line. Kudos.

Well said.

I think some of it is a spiral down a rabbit hole. When 2 posters are having a tit for tat argument about players or their roles or coaches and tactits, that people can end up doing player drive by's without realising.
In the effort/frustration (as some are blindly positive or defensive) to make a point, or use sarcasm or satire which can be more negative then needed.
I myself have did it to Blair in the past (and probably others like Maxy) in arguments over his place in the 22 which if he/they reads this... Im sorry for any hurt it may have caused.
Can't garauntee I won't do it again but I can try by exiting out of arguments earlier before they decend into frustration.

I have just come back to big footy after a 2 3 year hiatus. I am glad to see so many familiar names still around. I went off here as I just found I was being ultra negative towards the team non stop. (I am a negative person by nature).

As Michael Jackson said
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change

I attended a talk by the dalai lama years ago in Camberwell Civic Centre. He spoke about instantaneous expression of anger as being ok, which surprised me as my upbringing had taught me any expression of anger is not ok. Years down the track I view expression of emotions as being ok; that is, reasonable expression of said emotions. Denial of those emotions I view of as damaging to ourselves. For some, I theorise, expression of emotions in text on social media is needful and should be ok. Dave, perhaps, has been a lesson for us all in recognising that. Unfortunately in this format the expression of emotion moves from instantaneous to permanent. Suddenly people need to be held account for the emotion, need to rationalise it and be responsible for the supposed effect it has. This has come so far from standing on the boundary and screaming you white maggot. I don't have any answers to this change, I did love screaming from the boundary some words a little more intelligible than the latter, I even more loved listening to others yell in far more literate fashion than myself. I am not sure about a world in which expressing emotion or opinion regarding football must be tempered. My uninformed sense of supporting a football club was it was always about emotion and love, it was always tongue in cheek and it always transcended normal conversation.

You make a good point here. Someone might type something in anger but i'm not sure if you could call that instantaneous. I think most supporters might have shouted something while watching the game that they wouldn't say 5 minutes later, but I'm not sure you can equate that outburst to a post on BF. It might be a generational thing. Maybe the phone is more an extension of younger people whose thumbs seamlessly tap something off.... superhighway from brain to thumbs...

As for the Dalai, he saw instantaneous anger as ok, but it should be transformed into something more positive. I would argue that that would mean that you think before you post your anger and try to be a bit more balanced. I dont think the Dalai would support trashing Pie players...unless he's a closet carlton supporter.
