There may as well be a thread about this for discussion, even though I’m sure most of us that already post here have seen the entire season one of the series.

Without ruining it for others, what are your favorite parts from the episodes shown thus far on Fox Sports? Personally, I love watching Leben again. I actually forgot how entertaining he was on the show. Sure, he reeks of arrogance but it’s that type of arrogance that is likeable and hilarious at the same time. He is a warrior too, gets hammered the first night at the house and powers through the treadmill test.

Bonner always makes me laugh too. His quote in the first episode about having to bludgeon people was hilarious, the one about the possibility of being Diego’s father was even better. Oh, and you have to feel sorry for Strange-brew. The guy didn’t even have an MMA fight professional or amateur under his name when he signed up for the thing.

I saw it last night, any idea what episode they are upto on fox sports? I have the season 1 finale on dvd but am still interested to see the season 1 episodes if it is'nt too far into the series

It’s a reality show from early 2005 where a bunch of professional MMA fighters from various lower promotions that have never previously fought on a UFC card are brought in, live and train together with the chance of winning a contract and prize money. Each week, there are challenges and MMA fights to decide elimination.

After all fighters have been eliminated bar two from each weight class (light-heavyweight and middleweight in season one) there is a finale to decide the TUF champion. On the card, a bunch of fighters from the series come back to fight each other as an under-card with grudge matches and etc. Now days, the winner of TUF get a title shot against the current UFC champion in their weight division. They just finished season four in the States, FS3 is airing season one. Crowm Dome, episode four will be next week.

Is anyone else here hoping that TUF in Australia doesn’t bring in a bunch of really ignorant fans? I mean exposure is great, and the more the merrier but I’m talking about ones that won’t appreciate the ground work and knock it every chance they get and feel UFC fighters are the be all and end all of MMA?

I think everyone is 'ignorant' before they start to appreciate MMA. I mean when I first saw the UFC I didn't know jack about fighting and expected guys who did 'ninjitsu' to own everyone! A couple of my mates hated Royce Gracie and thought he was a 'cheat' to take and keep people down on the ground until they submitted! And before taking up BJJ 3 years ago, I was pretty igrorant of the technicalities of the ground game even though I was already massive MMA fan! So I think people learn more and more as time passes.

But I think if there is an interest, there will be people who want to learn more. The more exposure the better, and I think the TUF reality show is a really good vehicle to push MMA to the mainstream masses. At first I had my doubts of a 'reality' MMA show, but to it's credit the show is a great showcase for MMA and doesnt 'dumb down' sanitise or comercialise the sport.

Much like say AFL, I think over time, people will come to understand the sport and appreciate both the skill and technical aspects of the what is involved in the various aspects of MMA. As their interest grows, they will discover Pride, K1, or even ADCC and other pure sub grappling competitions.

Thanks for that, I will make sure to keep watching. I recently got ADSL2+ so have been downloading the latest season as it happened. The Finale had a great fight between Sell VS Smith.....absolute stand up war with one of the most bizarre finishes!!

Agreed. Season four was very good. Shonie Carter is the man.

And you're right, Magnum. I just get very annoyed with the casual fans that constantly trash on ground fighters, especially the ones not willing to learn and acknowledge its importance.

Was in the US recently, went to a World Pro FIghting event (Like UFC but for even bigger red necks). All I could hear from the crowd was. "stand up you NTTAWWTs" Long way to go for MMA that's for sure.

Was a great fight and did have the most unique finish i have ever seen. Both fighters end up on the canvas? Weird huh?

Prior to the fight, i assumed Sell would proove too powerful, however Smith now certianly has alot of respect.

Great Fight, great series!

Hahaha this is the only fight I haven't seen on this card. Will have to watch tonight.

It's a great fight.... A bit gay at times with the "high fives" and mateship, however these guys are good mates. It would be hard to know how to react when trying to cave your good mates face in.
 
The judges had no idea in the elimination bout between Southworth and Bonnar. That fight was obviously Southworth’s if it was to be a decision, but it at least should have gone to a third round.

I’m a big Bonnar fan, and sure, he was the aggressor, but Southworth clearly laid much more strikes both on the stand up and on the ground, got the better positioning on the ground after take downs and opened cuts too. There really needs to be some ex fighters on the judging panel in the future, even though this fight was over a year ago, it still shows how inconsistent the judging can be/is.

Drew, I'm a Quarry fan too. He said on his blog recently that he'll be fighting again sometime mid next year, which is good. When he got KTFO by Franklin, he must have realized he needed a long break. That was brutal.
 
Ok didnt see anything recent but did you know there was a current TUF season. This show has been dead for ages was listening to a pod they tried to find results online and came up with hardly anything this show has crashed may rate better in Aus than us cause of Bobby Knuckles. whats going on
