Jumper clash fails

Yep. Hawthorn also have this issue.

Totally. Teams with a predominately dark colour guernsey wear dark colour shorts, teams with predominantly light/white colours guernseys wear light/white shorts and all teams should have a satisfactory clash guernsey if required they are the away team, simple.

"Home" team in all finals is the team that finishes higher in H&A.

So no, Geelong will be "home" or higher ranked in all their finals.

Nah, not right at all. Geelong certainly won’t be the home team if they get to play Brisbane or Richmond in a fortnight.

The 'white shorts = away' is 100% the problem

We have the ludicrous situation of a club (North) changing their home jumper because of what can only be assumed was the implied injustice of having to wear white shorts at home games. It says to me they value blue shorts over their home jumper

Geelong have always seemed pragmatic with wearing white shorts but last night they obvs were making a statement and it was a balls up from the AFL to let them - the sooner we remove the conitation of white shorts equals away at all cost we can come to more pragmatic solutions

Ah yeah, fair enough... hadn't thought of it like that. Though I thought it was the higher team in a GF. Dunno.

I would have thought the theoretical home team would be the higher ranked team, not necessarily the higher ladder finisher. i.e the 2 QF winners are the 1st and 2nd ranked, the 2 QF losers are the 3rd and 4th and the 2 EF winners 5th and 6th.
So Geelong, if they were to get through, would be the away team if they play Collingwood, but home against anyone else.

Umm no. Geelong vs Collingwood hasn't been a clash since the 90's and as such we have no obligation to alter it to suit Geelong because it has never been a clash to begin with given the agreed upon matchup! Our clash jumper works in every single matchup it is designed to handle and we are not changing it based on the figuratively ******ed decision on Geelong to go back on the agreed upon matchup. The hatred of Collingwood blinds some people.

Making the jumper more white - yep sounds like the solution to last night's problem given that the clash came about because both teams had too much white in their kit
Such a tunnel visioned response to my post that missed the point entirely.

100% Horse Crap!!

Geelong are the home team. They wear their home strip. It is 100% up to Collingwood to NOT CLASH.

Every AFL team (like the 1000’s of soccer teams) need 3 strips - home, away & a clash strip!!

This is a fair position, but Geelong's uniform makes things complicated. By having a predominantly white top (and not using a predominantly navy one), if they wear navy shorts they guarantee a clash with Collingwood. If Geelong wear navy shorts, Collingwood's mostly white top with white shorts will clash, and, as happened last night, Collingwood's mostly black top with white shorts will clash.

There just needs to be darkness/lightness uniformity between the guernsey and shorts- if Geelong wear navy shorts, they should wear mostly navy tops, as that gives Collingwood something to avoid.

Their home strip for games v Collingwood is with white shorts, that’s what it was at the start of the season. They can’t change for finals just because they’re upset and blame everyone else

Again. Every team needs 3 strips (like EVERY professional soccer team) to deal with clashes!

The Crows have 3 strips Home (dark), away (mostly white) and a ‘clash’ - yellow. And the fans often get to vote on designs.

Shorts are part of the strips- so will everyone STFU about shorts being the answer.

No, they don't. As said earlier, if they wore their clash strip then the problem would have been worse. If both official strips clash with their opponent, then they have no effective clash strip. Not sure how that's even arguable.

I agree the problem last night was mainly caused by the shorts, but this is where the AFL's lack of a hard policy in regards to all strips gets exposed badly. Are shorts part of the home club's right to choose their strip? If not, then the AFL needs to put out directives to clubs ordering them to wear whatever colour shorts they decide. If so, then some clubs must develop proper clash strips. If that means bringing in new colours then so be it.
This.

End thread.

Erm no it’s not. Seedings get rejigged depending on qualifying final results.

Otherwise what you’re insinuating is that if Brisbane lose tonight and then win next week, in preliminary final week we’d be travelling to Brisbane as they qualified higher during the H&A season. Not the case, the higher seeding is forfeited to the two winning qualifying final teams.

So we are now effectively “seeded” second, behind whichever team wins the Brisbane v Richmond game tonight. Similarly Geelong are now “seeded” third, and the loser of Brisbane v Richmond is “seeded” fourth.

The pies have home (dark), away (white), the problem is Geelong have home(white and dark)...

Shorts are the answer, because you shouldn’t be wearing dark jumpers with light shorts or white jumpers with dark shorts!!!

one of these things is not like the other...

The one that is not like the other is Essendon. Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood all have inverse designs. Essendon is red with a red sash on top of a black gradient.

Nice try, but even though you were being very selective with your images by not showing the backs of the jumpers (which shows Collingwoods jumpers being clearly different), your post still backfired, lol.
