I think you’ll find it’s more likely to meet and poach some of our players.
If you really think these two were here to offer moral support to Fagan, then I have a Harbour Bridge for sale at a good price.
They were there to do what all Vic-based clubs do- leach off the interstate clubs who, as we all know, have unlimited advantages offered by the ever-sympathetic AFL. Like, eg, morning coffee with Gil when the umpiring isn't entirely going to schedule.
We simply weren't up to it, just as the officials weren't. The missed throw was simply inexcusable, and Umpire 26 should never again get an important game. Incidentally, the same umpire who paid Grimes' dive.
Then again, if we hadn't missed 4 very gettable goals before half time, then who knows.
Number One recruitment, draft, stealing, etc etc priority- a reliable KPF who can mark and kick 2 or 3 goals each week. It simply isn't sustainable to have one supposed KPF who kicks 3 in 8 games, and is judged by some as performing his role. I have a sneaking suspicion what the definitive role of a KPF is- possibly kicking goals??
Nor is it a sustainable game plan to rely on one small forward to kick game altering scores week in and out, without the support of his very much larger teammates, very often missing as it happens as per last night. When this key small forward goes missing- then basically, game over.
I always attribute greater value those who stand up in a losing side- ours were Hodge [how sad a commentary is this] McCluggage, Lyons, Berry, Neale, Martin, and maybe that's all she wrote folks. Maybe Rayner and Bailey, maybe. The more established players- Rich, Andrews, Hipwood, McCarthy, Christensen, Zorko, Cameron- mainly underachieved.
