Roast Wayne Carey’s commentary

Danger clearly takes out legs.. he whinges. Then complains that JT did the same thing in the last despite the fact he didn’t dive into anyone’s leg and got his own head ripped off.
Also sounded like his dog died every time we did something good.

Blokes a w***er. Discuss.
Carey is the biggest w***er in football, he thinks he’s better than everyone else, what a flog.

Really? I keep hearing this from our supporters... Personally I think it's just your cognitive bias, where you believe he is anti Collingwood and anything he says that can reinforce that belief you keep pointing out. I thought Carey was pretty neutral last night. I don't agree with his sentiment towards rewarding the player at the ball first but I can see his point. He compliments Buckley often and agreed wholeheartedly that it's the only fairytale left in the AFL for Buckley to coach his team to a flag. I just don't see his resentment towards Buckley and to be honest all this whining about it and the commentary of the game is getting old. Their job is to give opinion. Sometimes you'll agree, sometimes you wont but just because someone has an opinion that isn't the same as yours, doesn't make their agenda anti Collingwood.
Spot on. I echo’ed this sentiment weeks ago.

Sure, some commentators probably don’t like us, but fu** me dead with the way people go on about the commentary is ridiculous. You’d think they never say anything Pro-Collingwood, and boo whenever we kick a goal.
Agree with both of you. I've never understood the cries of commentary bias. Has no impact on the game or on my enjoyment of the game. Nothing. Its just one of the most pointless things to get upset about IMO.

Commentators are always going to lean towards a tight game, a team coming back from a deficit or lean towards the underdog getting up. Some people perceive that as commentators 'hating' their team.

As long as commentators keep me informed and add to the excitement and atmosphere, I couldnt care less.

There is so much salt from Carey towards Buckley. He hates him and Bucks probably hates Carey too.

Wonder which side id like to be on, the bloke who is constantly trying to better himself, or the guy that slept with his best mates wife and belted another one of his partners.

The joke is that Carey can still be in the media, being the kind of tool he is.

Having said all this, the whole commentary last night was a "how can we get Geelong back into this" show. The hatred for us is still strong, even in that buffoon BT.
Pretty sure BT's a collingwood man. Cant be seen to look bias so at times seems he's against us.

Love going to Games Live as don't listen to the Flogs call the game.

They are more Biased against Collingwood then Eddie being Postive.

How did a Prick like Carey get a Job in the Media with his History?

I look at how the commentator talks when it’s us behind on the scoreboard.
Most talk like the Comms did last night, trying to get us into the contest to make it a close game.
Carey is the exception though.
He simply cannot put his bias aside and be professional. The highlighted case last night when he called the free against Danger as incorrect.
Simply Danger came in at speed and elected to go to ground, making contact with the legs. The umpires have paid it this way all year.
The fact that Carey then continued to be salty when Thomas avoided a penalty bears out his lack of knowledge of the rules as interpreted season 2019.
Thomas was stationary and contact was made with him. It’s a glaring mistake from a senior commentator.
The question to be asked is, if it were Brown going to ground and Danger was awarded a free, would we even be having this debate.
We all know the answer to that.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I think your misreading it. From my perspective, I don’t think Carey was arguing against the rule itself, more that the rule is a blight on the game, and shouldn’t be a rule that is enforced by the umpires. I happen to agree with him, that whilst by the book, yes that is a free kick... but it shouldn’t be. I think that was more of his point, he doesn’t agree with the ruling itself, and i agree, danger did nothing wrong

This 100%.The sliding rule has been in for a number of years now.Everyone knows about it,the commentators certainly know about it.Carey was only arguing against it because it went to a Collingwood player for a change.

Jobe Watson's special comments tonight...makes Carey sound like Einstein.
Richmond kick 2 goals in and get right back in it... Jobe says... "They've wrested the momentum back the tigers and they're right back in it". Thanks for that special insight Jobe...

Not as smart as his dad, and that’s a very low hurdle to clear.

Well for me the bias commentators totally ruin the viewing experience
They’d be better off just calling the action as it unfolds and stick their barracking and bias opinions up their khybers.
Wish they would call as tho they are describing the game to a blind man.
The rooting for the Cats and almost deadpan sighs when we won was ridiculous

Get used to it Mobbsy it has always been so and will remain.

Because rednecks love that sh1t and the idiot media always pander to the lowest common denominator.

Carey's resurrection and welcome back to the media is your classic 'great player' narrative at work. The better the player, the more forgiving of the crimes. Hird is not far behind on his journey back to redemption (many Bombers fans would have him back at their club in a heartbeat).

I cant stand Carey for a whole range of reasons, and he put his foot firmly in his mouth with his Pies are only 'making up the numbers' piece, but I'm not sure he always shows bias towards us. I've read and heard him pay us some grudging respect over the years.

Never forget Carey gave character evidence for Moran in court
Low life scum
Daisy Thomas in one game exposed him

Buckley in one game DESTROYED him - which is why he will never give the pies any credit.

Aside from that, back dooring a team mate and assaulting a partner are the acts of a complete slimeball.

That's what you expect from the match caller who needs to tell the story of the game not the guy whose meant to be adding insight.
I think you can tell someone doesn't have anything to say at the start of the game when they say "it's important for team X to get off to a good start".

Over to Jobe “captain obvious” Watson. “The game looks like it’s slipping away from the Lions now.”
“Ok thanks Jobe”

Thank god he was there to tell me this sort of stuff because I was thinking the Lions were playing rope a dope and had it all under control.

In addition, wasn't Carey briefly employed by Collingwood, not that long after he retired as a player, as some sort of part-time assistant or specialist coach but was suddenly sacked (or officially 'resigned') after only a couple of months under somewhat murky circumstances that were never made public?

Peptide Watson?

The fact that Seven gave him a him a job at all is the real problem here.

Everyone thinks of the incident at the party, but it's always worth remembering that pleaded guilty to indecent assault after groping a woman on the street.

Years later when he was in the US, he smashed a wine glass in his girlfriend's face. When the cops came, he kicked a female cop in the mouth and was convicted of assault.

He's a scumbag.
