Aren’t hammies normally a 3 week injury?

In which case I’m not sure this is to make sure he plays the GF. He will, my guess is this is to make sure he survives the whole game.

Wouldn't the 3 week rule of thumb that exists for low grade tears be thrown out the window after a recurrence? They're sending Jordy to Germany so he can get diagnosed by a specialist. Who knows what sort of irregularity he might find and treat that we haven't been able to?

As an interesting aside, this article is a good read.

"...The first month after return to play (RTP) is the highest risk time for recurrence, though the risk remains elevated for at least 12 months. Despite a rapidly expanding body of the literature investigating HMI in recent decades, there has been no significant reduction in HMI rates in professional sport ..."

Yep.
Until we discovered hamstrings, it was an unknown injury. Never happened to any players in other clubs.
When it first surfaced at Collingwood, had to read up on to it.

Come on Saintly, it's the scale I'm talking about. I mean, I get there are issues across all clubs, but we have 4 elite players - maybe more -- who have chronic problems.

Its not just the hoped for benefits for Jordy, but also the message this sends during finals. Its a bit of an old fashioned Collingwood 'up yours'. We are the Pies, we have the money, and he is our champion. We will move heaven and earth to get him right.

I agree that our numbers seem worse, is it because it's our high profile players that are suffering? Would clubs just delist lower ranked players that can't recover from injury? We're not the only organisation with hamstring gremlins:

"..Hamstring strain injuries (HSI) are among the most common injuries in the active population, and are notorious for their high rates of re‐injury. In the American National Football League for example, HSIs have been reported to account for 12% of all primary injuries, and their recurrence rate is remarkable, at 32%. They are the most common injury reported in professional soccer and account for 29% of track and field injuries in sprinters. Additionally, HSIs are reported with high frequency in sports that require sprinting, kicking, acceleration, and change of direction including rugby, and Australian Rules Football. The average amount of time missed from sport is 18 days, however, actual time missed is often greater and costly..."

"...Recurrence rates following hamstring injuries are high with the greatest incidence for re‐injury occurring within the first two weeks after return to sport..."

Everything I've read so far tells me that there is no silver bullet or one size fits all approach.

The fact they're desperate for help to get him right tells me he has definitely reinjured this hamstring at least once before the game on Friday night. Not sure how many set backs he has had but they obviously don't have much confidence in their own rehabilitation.

Even if he doesn't get up for the Grand Final, hopefully they learn something from every Hans visit they send players on, whether it be prehab, rehab, future prevention, etc.

It must be me jinxing them then, I follow the Bengals in the NFL and the Rabbitohs in the NRL and they too are plagued by serious and reoccurring hamstring injuries.
I put it down to the fact you take more notice of your own generally and it just feels like that.

I’m sure someone could pop up a list of hammy injuries by player and club going back 4 or 5 years or so though.

Great news that the club isn't going to meekly rule him out of any possible grand final and is prepared to give him the best possible chance of resuming this season.

Much better than the defeatist attitude that Barrett is peddling in the media.

3-weeks?! This is Collingwood you’re talking about, but I like your theory.

Do you hear voices often?

Do they tell you to do things??

Hopefully nice things.

Damien Barrett writes about the fact that both Richmond and Collingwood have lost a champion player-Rance and DeGoey as if the ledger is evenly balanced. How could this so called football expert write such ignorant tosh? We are also missing Greenwood, Beams, Cox, Aish and Langdon. Three of these players were absolute stars in our demolition of Richmond in last year's preliminary final. All of these players along with DeGoey would be playing if they were fit and healthy.

I heard Hardwick's press conference this week and when he was asked about the health of his list he sounded more like one of his team's supporters trying to pretend the Tigers are still missing a number of players. Who did he mention? Stack and Higgins. Stack had been dropped to the VFL after a few weeks of very quiet performances when he did his calf and Higgins had also been out for weeks in the seconds. He seems loathe to admit they are at full strength other than Rance.

Can we add Murphy, Sier and Dunne to our already lengthy list of outs?

I thought Aish is OK now?

Normally, minor hamstring strains would be a 3 to 4 week injury. But considering he has done it twice in the last 6 weeks, being fully fit for a prospective GF would be optimistic as the chances of it happening again in the game would be high I would say.

Is it to get him right for the Prelim.

It's to get him right. Whether that eventuates in time for the PF or the GF or for 2020 isn't really the issue, as long as they get him right. We can all hope for miracles though.

Maybe he can bring me back a super model

I've got a fantastic super model where everyone puts their super savings into an account that coincidentally has my name on it. You in?

I think some of the indiscretions of Jordan's past are starting to catch up with him. For one reason or another, he basically has not had a pre-season in the past 3 seasons. Again this year he was battling hammy issues in the build up to the start of the year.

It's scary to think how good this guy can be if he actually puts a full pre-season together.

But as it stands, his body just doesn't have the conditioning.

That said, I'm glad the club is taking all steps possible to get him right, because he is a potential match-winner, and a risk worth taking into a once off game like a GF. But I'm highly doubtful he'll make it in time. If we were to pull it off, it could be a premiership winning move.

The Rabbitohs are hampered by recurring ridiculous Burgess brain snaps. :(
