Merrett has turned in to a very cheap footballer.
Dives. Plays for frees. Cheap shots on his opponent looking for retaliation then overemphasises the contact looking for a free. As he did when pulling Nic Nat’s hair. Gathers cheap outside possessions.

Pretty confident he would not be respected by opposition clubs.

Another reason to detest these cheats.

“Words have Power”

FWIW - Amuses me how various football/media people refer to * 1 year ban.

Tim Watson, M Lloyd,* leaning journalists and PC AFL panderers - “Supplement Saga”

Sam Maclure, ASADA (and disappointingly few others) - “* Drug Scandal”

And disappointingly people like Andy Maher who sat beside Tim Watson for years on the SEN Breakfast Show allowing him to waffle endlessly about the “supplements saga” and act as an Essendon PR piece without ever pulling him up.

The difference about our cheating and Essendon’s cheating isn’t so much the cheating but the response of the club members to the cheating.

In 2002 the Carlton Members took responsibility for its Boards cheating and voted its corrupt Board out of office.

Never seen Essendon members take any sort of similar responsibility.

I was horrified that we rorted the system so badly and accepted we should be punished.
The punishment however was the worst handed out to any club in the history of the game and set us back 10 years (poor recruiting set us back as further five). There is no doubt other clubs were cheating as well, unfortunately the league wanted to make a statement against an arrogant club so didn’t investigate too hard.
*don on the other hand rorted the system in the drugs scandal, yet the AFL took pity on their circumstances.

Most of them still think they have done nothing wrong and that the club is a victim

This attitude was fostered by the AFL's response to the Dopers getting caught. They saw the need to investigate the Dopers as a pain in the arse because this didn't fit in with their normal approach of sweeping such behaviour under the carpet.

In addition, the AFL's 'independent' tribunal managed to engineer an outcome which made the Dopers' guilt seem almost accidental & it is only because of WADA that the Dopers were finally penalised for their cheating & then the AFL dished out watered down penalties, but only because they had no choice but to penalise the Dopers in some shape or form.

Watching the Ashes over the past weeks I can't help but admire Cricket Australia and the blokes involved in the ball tampering.
I know that this level of cheating is not in the same scope as the drug cheats fiasco.
But look at the difference in approach by the organization and the people involved.
Cricket Australia does not make excuses, try to limit damage or cover up. Players involved own up to there behaviour, are genuinely remorseful.
They lose their positions in the Australian side, sponsorships, player payments are banned from the sport and cop a grilling in the press.
Did their punishment, came back into team humbly and contritely, focussed on the success of the team.
The general public and the cricketing world will forgive and forget.
Cricket Australia respected globally for the tough stance.
Steve Smith particularly has shown enormous character and resolve.

Then you look at the AFL, dopers and Tird...... what insipid, corrupt organisations the AFL and dopers are.
What a poor comparison and specimen Tird is.
And the stench won't go away because the rot was not dealt with and there will always be questions.

And yet Smith/Warner/Bancroft will forever be reminded by opposition fans and probably players of their transgression, while if we're being honest most of the general public have already forgotten and moved on from the Essendon Drags Scandal.

AU contraire my good friend.

Just try and do to Essendon at games at the MCG (or any other stadium in Australia) what the Barmy Army does to the Australian side.

You will be politely asked by the security in Yellow Coats to desist, and if you persist you will be escorted out.

The AFL are actively censoring any reminders of this scandal out of the game under the guise of political correctness
