I never saw it with Pickett.

I agree he had the right elements, but the sum seemed to be less than the parts.

Obviously injuries and lack of fitness were the main issues.

But from what we got to see he 1) didn't do enough 2) was a 'nearly' player (eg he would break the lines but then turn the ball over).

I guess we will never know if it all would have clicked if he'd gotten continuity. I of course hoped it would, but always feared that it wouldn't.

Gary Rohan is a good example. He's got some great highlights, and has an impressive quarter here or there. But years go by and you realise he averages less touches a game than Robbie Warnock (yes, really) and less goals than Troy Menzel.... Puke

When he first came I was more excited by him then I was with Marchbank who was in the same trade. As you said so many tricks and X factor but the more time went on he just didn’t seem to have much footy IQ. Not enough natural goal sense, couldn’t find the ball and when he did, he didn’t seem to know what to do with it.
One of the more disappointing players for me to see not make it because he had some traits that other players would die for.

Stupid question coming up.

Will B Crouch be happy to leave his brother behind at Adelaide? Or would he want a package deal to be worked out?

I reckon we have plenty of big fish developing at the club..we need cheap quality players to surround them..all these players we missed out on (bar saad) the last few years didn’t really add much to their destination clubs..Papley would be nice but I am happy for us to go to the draft again tbh

Here's a post of mine from last year. It shows the recruits from other teams on premiership lists 2012 onwards.

Spoiler alert: no real $1.3M types, lots of foot soldiers

Spot on. And it’s also interesting to look at it from the other perspective, teams that have picked up the stars.

Judd to Carlton
Danger to geelong
Shiel to Essendon
Buddy to swans
Ablett to Gold Coast
May/lever to Melbourne
Trevor to Collingwood

These are just names I’m listing that come to mind, I’m sure there are plenty more.

But point of the story - majority of the premiership teams trades in last 7 or 8 years (so basically free agency period) have been your foot soldiers. However, teams that have chased the superstars are yet to bear fruits in the form of premierships.

That will change, law of averages says it will, and this year (tigers/lynch or pies/trelor) is looking likely. But don’t get hung up on bringing in superstars. Build superstars (Cripps, Walsh, weitering, Curnow, McKay). Trade in foot soldiers or young up and coming types.

Can’t wait to see what the blues deliver in 2020. Couldn’t give a stuff if we didn’t recruit a single player in the trade period.

Although, I have a sneaky suspicion that jack martin would fall into that foot soldier category. So happy to take him.

Find a silky small forward at pick 8, and give him two years to develop with Eddie.

That was awesome reading Trevor to Collingwood! 🤣🤣🤣

I may be wrong, but, wasn’t it Hampson who was preferred ahead of Jacobs?

Warnock was preferred over Jacobs so Jacobs wanted to go back to South Australia and who can blame him? This still annoys me. Like us getting rid of Porter for Pagan's old pricks.

Both on the money. Jacobs had a very good end to the season but was still considered to be 3rd in line behind Warnock and Hampson.

It was reported that Phillips is assessing his options. Has a 1 year deal in front of him.

Given his age, he may be trying to see if there's a club like Geelong without a decent ruckman that might give him an opportunity in the primary role.

As it stands, he will always be behind Kreuzer at Carlton.
I still think MK would make a gun ruckrover following at the feet of a dedicated Blues ruckman. So I reckon there’s room for an alternative primary ruckman.

Fair enough.

I thought you were unfairly (IMHO) taking potshots at genuine ITK’s.

I was recently involved in a business negotiation over 8 months and there were twists and turns every couple of weeks.

I could have told you many times exactly what the state of play was.

Final outcome was very different.
if there are leaks during a negotiation I only hope they improve the final outcome --- sometimes I wonder if they are counterproductive for us. As much as we all love inside knowledge I'd like it even more if there was no leak and a left field deal was achieved that no one saw coming, or could intervene in to stop.

Sums it up well for me.

Everyone is looking for speed, skills and tricks in a small forward but footy IQ is at least as important as all of those things.

I want to see tight lips to ensure our trades are not compromised.

But not as much as I WANT RUMOURZ!!! :p

Morning Mr Ferris.

I humbly ask you to update me on the thread as not been able to read since tea time last night, and these slow asses have not picked up pace so I feel confident you the man to provide a brief and accurate summary of thread since then.

Thanka in advance, your number 8 fan.

Wonder if there is still any 'smoke' around Talia.

I reckon he'd be a great acquisition. Marchbank has questions marks around his ability to stay on the park and Jones is not really your traditional lock down defender.

I think Talia would fit in nicely and potentially free Weitering to play intercept role. Can never have too much talent.

A metaphor - if you take a peak at your present now there is a 60% chance you will get a Coniglio Lego set on Christmas Day. If you are patient and don't peak it's an 80% chance.

The fallback position is a used Sam Jacobs mechano set from the op shop.

Apparently we are talking to Jacobs.

And the admin is torn over Betts.

I guess next in line would be pursuing a comeback by Judd, talking Brent Crosswell out of retirement, checking if dinosaurs qualify for Cat B rookie spots or recruiting thylacine60's grandfather.

Appreciate quick summary.
I'll be honest and say I think Jacobs been past his best for a good two years. Really do not want him at this stage.
Eddie I could handle for a season if we do not get Papley but it feels like we doing a favour for Eddie to help him feel better of how he ends his career rather than do what is in our plans for our list at this off season. I wish Eddie well and love him as a player but his time maybe just going like it is for Jacobs.
I am with SOS on this one. Sorry Eddie.

It was a nice romantic story at first but cooled on it myself since first hearing of it last week.
