Rumour is some posters are unable to post on the rumour thread no discussion. Is this the right thread?

Crazy talk here. I'm reading a lot of people saying they don't mind CEY leaving, or that Greenwood has been better than him this year. CEY was a standout in the first half of this year, certainly freeing up the Crouches/Sloane by being an absolute bull on the inside. I think he had a much better year than Greenwood, although admittedly different players. Would prefer to keep both and find a more stable role for Greenwood, Jesus why not throw him down back in place of Hartigan?? Anything is better than Hartigan..

I'd rather keep Greenwood! If CEY gets anything more than 1 year, he is taking the place of a kid who should be in the team.

I know he has his fans on BF, but he's not in our next flag team and not going to be teaching the younger players much, so it' a no from me
I think you will find there is interest out there. I don’t think he is taken some kids spot, “SHOULD be in the team,”if they are better they will force him out,

We need to keep one of Greenwood or CEY but not both.

If they both do go it is not the end of the world either.

Long term it would be better playing a kid. Well first drafting a big bodied mid. And then playing them.

I do wonder if Davis could slot in?

To me we are way too same paced in the midfield, and we should be looking to exodus at least 1, maybe 2 to change up our mixup before next season. I think we need to keep only 1 of Greenwood and CEY as either one of them can play as a big bodied mid/marking forward. But we should also look to trade out a Crouch Brother, as both can only play midfield, and will get us a much bigger return.

For me trading out Greenwood and BCrouch is the best scenario. I don't actually think it hurts our midfield mix as much as others, and it also will get us the biggest potential return on the trade table.

Why is a thread dedicated to actual rumours ridiculous? That way you don't have to weed through the crap posted on the discussion thread to find them. Works well on the Cartlon board.

What truly is ridiculous is so many have struggled to comprehend basic instructions.

Because there's twitter, instagram, AFL.com, The Herald Sun, The Advertiser, Facebook, Myspace, Angelfire.com etc. where all manner of these things are published. All we're doing is collating them like a primary school history project... which would be fine, if we could discuss them too. But no, this thread means we can read them, then go somewhere else to talk about them. It makes my head hurt at the eye-rolling silliness of it.

Though I agree with the people struggling to understand it bit too.

Thats my favourite thread. Purely because it give's us a single centralized place to see everything as soon as they come up without having to visit the infinite amount of site's on which rumours get talked about. As well as cutting through all the crap of people discussing them!

Side benefit, it's seemingly halved the amount of "Tell me exactly where you heard this rumour otherwise its BS" comments too. Which was really starting to get old!

Would not surprise me if Fagan asked Charlie to push up the ground a bit and run through the middle.

Charlie does not want to do that. I have been told by someone at the club part of the reaso he left is because we wanted him to go through the middle more and he has no interest in that. He wants to be a career small forward. He didnt like the feedback give to him in this regard by our coaches.

Such a waste.

When
I do think he is a good player and wish he never left.

But an even better player as an attacking mid. He really is a mini Dangerfield. Strong out of the contest and that burst speed and great evasiveness.

That is also how our club saw him.

Wasted playing predominantly as a SF. But that is what he wants.

Look at McHenry for us. Will start his career at SF then move into the midfield. A transition Chad Wingard has all but made the past two seasons.

Charlie should be doing that too. Should have happened two seasons ago.

Whereas a guy like Murphy, if he has an AFL future, will be a career SF.

All Australian this year for being the best goal kicking small forward in the competition who's turned matches on their head in a goal scoring blitz, I reckon he's doing alright as he is. I'm more worried about the mess we are in to be honest than to worrie how much midfield time jump ship all Australian forward Charlie is doing.

It's more crazy to talk about keeping him right now. We're in desperate need of a slash and burn, and instead of following the league trend of getting faster, CEY makes our midfield even slower. To make matters worse, he is another player who is inside only which means he heavily limits who we can rotate into our midfield (as well with the Crouch brothers).

He's effectively a square peg for a round hole.

This idea that trading our best midfielder (Brad Crouch) somehow makes us a better team is ridiculous.

We have options on how to manage the midfield mix whilst also keeping both Crouches. Go look at how some of the better teams have utilised midfielders in slightly different roles. It just requires the right coaches.

I’d be more than happy to trade Ellis-Yolmen and Greenwood. But we must keep the Crouches.

Not better in 2020, better in 2022, which is very possible.

I'm open to trading Brad if we don't believe he'll add another position to his game seeing we want to maximise how many midfield rotations we can have in our lineup. Same deal if we don't believe the explosiveness will come back. Though, of course, I'm happy to hold onto him seeing there is a good chance both will happen.

I found myself responding to something.... and then quickly deleting it. It isn’t that easy!

Brad yes, Matt not so sure. He was hugely disappointing this year - no hurt factor and allowed his opponents to run off him all day.

Dude. We are way too slow as is in our midfield, and hitting a rebuild.

I wouldn't even consider keeping CEY right now. We need positions to open up in our midfield pronto.

This is exactly it. Our midfield for the most part is slow as treacle and we get cut up by opposition going the other way and struggle to move the ball effectively by hand because we simply have not spread. Now some of this may be coaching related, but a lot of it has to do with personnel.

Our midfield brigade is currently:
Sloane - Average speed, POD is runs his guts out.
M.Crouch - Bog slow, limited defensive pressure, doesn't break the lines. Wins buckets of uncontested footy and is our prime inside mid.
B.Crouch - Actually has a bit of pace and can be quite dynamic. Trouble is we rarely see it, especially when coming back from injury. Defensively average.
Greenwood - Tackles hard, elite contested ball/clearance winner, but again slow on the outside
CEY - Again big body, good around the contest, but again slow on the outside
Wilson - Again, wins a lot of the footy, but slow on the spread/outside
Gibbs - Classy player, wins contested ball as a midfielder, but again slow defensively and on the spread

If we're going to continue, as is highly likely, with Sloane and the Crouch brothers as our 3 main inside midfielders(rightly or wrongly), then there's really little room for the other 4 in our side. Greenwood perhaps has a role as a forward.

Otherwise these guys should be depth and we should be looking to insert Milera, McHenry, Jones, Gallucci +/- other draftees into this mix to counter the lack of defensive ability and spread of the combo of Sloane/Crouch brothers. Noting Sloanes good defensively and Brad has the ability to be a great spread/break player.

Even if that’s all it’s doing is collating what’s the issue? Then having to go to another thread to discuss is all what, 2 clicks away?

But ideally posters with intel sharing their info is ideally what it’s for, rather than what’s out there as common knowledge.

It works very well on the Carlton board, are you saying they are more capable than us ;)

Agree. If losing the Crouches means that we bring in some highly talented, pacey, skillful midfielders, then I'm happy. If not, then we need to work hard to surround them with such players.

A midfield of Sloane, Crouch x 2, Gibbs, Greenwood, CEY is far, far too slow and poorly skilled.

Agreed, I think its a great idea. Some of us don't have time to sift through massive threads filled with absolute BS discussion on BigFooty, plus monitor facebook, Twitter, Insta, AFL.com.au, advertiser/herald sun, Age etc.

A collated thread of purely the rumours is a great idea. It just takes a modicum of self control not to post rubbish in there.

Add 2 gun mids to Crouch, Crouch, Milera, Jones, McHenry and we might get somewhere.
Fogarty and Himmelberg would be fine up forward with decent supply.
Our defence would improve because we wouldn't get smashed on the outside as much.

Get rid of Crouches and it looks like shit.

Got to add talent to midfield not deplete it

No, most Carlton supporters are ******ed sheep, i'm not surprised it works there at all.

I suspect, being a club of dynamically-minded free-thinkers, we have trouble following set rules and are more concerned about the dissemination of ideas.
