He gets more than a third of his disposals contested, they have it wrong in this article.

Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country | General Defender
21/06/2001 | 186cm | 80kg

Along with Young, Ash is the other standout Country prospect in defence. The Murray Bushrangers runner has few flaws to his game, owning the defensive 50 with a massive amount of intercept marks and rebounds, while slicing up opposition zones with his elite kicking ability. He is a player that just catches the eye, gets himself into the right positions, and can set up teammates around the ground or in attack. He has hardly put a foot wrong this season, and while his performance on the MCG had its ups and downs, his NAB League form is not to be questioned. The noticeable advantage with Ash compared to a lot of half-backs is he can win his own ball, and while he might only win a third of his possessions in a contest, he is comparably low with handball receives, almost winning more touches from marking than from handballs. If he and Young both play off half-back at the National Under 18 Championships, expect Country to have plenty of run and penetration.
August Ranking: #4
Last month: Finished his competitive season with a best-on performance for Murray in the Bushrangers’ loss to Dandenong in Wildcard Round. The co-captain was massive around the ground with his drive and elite skills and decision making. He took four marks, laid six tackles and got it down at both ends with six rebounds and five inside 50s. He now returns to play with Shepparton in his home club’s finals series.

If we want a contested ball winner with big accumulation we should get Robertson, he does it all. Rory Sloan type.
Reminds me of a faster Shannon hunt perhaps with more midfield capabilities very simmilar body type

He was played as a full time mid in his tac cup games and dominated as a contested ball winning bull with explosive pace. Played as a midfielder in one of the country games and picked up 26 and a goal, he’s more than shown he will end up being a midfielder. Unlike coff he loves a hard/contested ball and getting his arms free and dishing off. Try watch some of his highlights. I really wanted him pre injury but not sure we can take the risk now because of our history and the other good picks around our Mark. I’m more than stoked if we pick him too. Huge upside
I’ve struggled to find highlight of him, hence why I’ve been asking questions.

If someone can post some that would be great.

Download the NAB league app. Has a tonne of highlights, just have to search for the player and away you go.

Heard him on the latest Road to the Draft podcast episode and Twomey thinks he will go between 5-20 or something like that.

The other interesting piece of information is that he ruptured his ACL from a change of direction. If he slid to the 20s or even somehow the 30s then I’d take him but nothing before that.

That’s a good point. I’ve just watched all his highlights. To me he looks like an athletic beast, big and quick with good acceleration, but his disposal was poor especially under pressure. Thought both his kicks and handballs generally missed the target.

I then watched Ash. He is clean, with good disposal. Quick with good acceleration and found space by bursting away from stoppage. I’m very keen on him.

Hopefully we have pick 5 and he makes it that far.

The City of Greater Dandenong has the most ethnic diversity of any council area in the country, with over 140 ethnicities and countries represented amongst its ratepayers and citizens. Somalis, Sudanese and those from the Horn of Africa, already being overtaken by refugees from the Middle East and the Central Asian "Stans".

Come over to the Dandenong Market or take a stroll down the main drag. It would have to be the least "white" place in the country. Imagine if we could indoctrinate the newcomers in the ways of the saints! The Africans in particular look athletic and well suited to our game. Basketball is the main threat where they are converned, while the western Asians and Middle Eastern types are into their soccer. Come on saints, hop to it!

dont't we have that zone?

This year there is very little video around, Giant Roo used to have highlight packages for all the better players up on youtube but seems to have dropped off. Surprised the AFL don't pay someone to edit them all together, they are a huge asset and hyper the drafts.

Yeah similar build and size but he looks a little bit more classy than the agricultural Hurn. Hurn is a bull and I love him but he's like hammer, I reckon Ash will be a classy gun.

Despite not thinking that we'll have a first round pick to use come draft night, I'm liking Flanders and Robertson, but with Ratts focus on disposal efficiency I don't Robertson will be high on the list.

He reminds me of Crouch in his draft year, despite getting great numbers recruiters got caught up in his deficiencies, he dropped down the order, then killed it in the AFL anyway.

I think sometimes we make too much of these injuries to youngsters.
Being the age they are, these bigger boys are gaining weight and power at the fastest rate of their lifetimes and ligaments being the slowest to develop are at their highest point of risk.

I don't know how we'd manage to swing it, but I'd like to see us keep p5 and get a late 1st to put us in with a chance of grabbing Kemp.
We've been wanting a big bull mid and he fits the bill but has pace too.
As a calculated risk he's worth a punt, and if you see that we took Ming, Bytel and were after Caldwell too, l think the club back the ability of kids to heal up well under proper supervision.
Given when the injury happened he'd get 18 months of professional rehab before seeing action.

Yeah, I agree and would be happy to have him injury or not. I just rate other players at 5 and late first. Those being Ash and Williams.

Kemp will probably be an absolute super star, but his hands in tight don’t seem good to me and he missed most of his targets by his foot. He might be athletic like Bont and Cripps, but they both have incredible hands in tight.

It was the same knock on Worpel though.
All in all we're not to know, but I'll back Libba and Co, post Trout.

With Hind, Parker, Jimmy and Coff our pace issues are largely fixed except for a quick insider, (Jones*) and Hunter and Bytel have very very clean hands already.

I tend to think this year is our last chance to load up on some top young mids as the next 2 firsts will be allocated to Bing, and after that we'd want to be starting our finals run.

If we can basically swap Bruce for Hill, I'd want to see us demand a 1st from the Cats for Stuv + change.

For our needs 2x first round mids plus Biggie is about right. We have another NGA get next year and since our balance will be better we can just get back to cherry picking talant with later picks.

I really like Kemp but it’s the risk that I’m worried about. Six times more likely to rupture it again according to the stats. I’m already worried about King, probably couldn’t deal with another one.

Yeah, it’s a good point re Worple.

I haven’t been a big draft watcher so it’s hard to see the progression.

I think Ash ends up a mid though, looks good there in the footage I’ve seen. Cleaner then Kemp but also has the size and speed. Probably ends up more balanced the Kemp.

Williams is the one that gets me excited. Could be the best player in the draft, has been injured and his performance has dropped and is looking like a late first.

Medium forward that’s a part Stevie J, Stephenson and JDG. Can pinch hit in the middle as well.

The difference with Kings is he didn’t do it because of his structural makeup, directional change or landing on it. He ruptured it because someone fell across it. This could literally happen to any footballer....It was nothing but bad luck. This gives me comfort with King.

I’ve wondered that too. I was talking to someone from work who specialises in this area. Unfortunately I don’t think it matters how it happens because the risk is higher simply because it has happened before and the repaired knee isn’t as strong. Although it probably is even higher in those who did it from changing direction because of their biomechanics.

I’m not entirely sure though.

Dylan Stephens has been playing SANFL for the Norwood senior team and getting plenty of touches as a midfielder/wingmen. He is a sublime kick and has great speed and evasive skills. He has rocketed since the championships and if we take pick #5 to the draft the Saints should/will grab him IMO.

My gut feel is that the stats might be a bit of a red herring on this matter.
The quality of the procedure and rehab is better than it used to be and for the reinjury stats to be accurate you'd need to isolate out historical factors and predispositions and all sorts of stuff. We saw that GWS took Bonar at 11, who's fairly similar dimensions to Kemp with good speed also, so it doesn't seem to bother clubs that much. Cal Toomey still reckons first round so that's a reasonable assessment from someone who's tapped into recruiting for his profession.

Its kind of strange, because only a few years back a promising footballer missed the draft completely, because of an ACL.
2 years later , after he came back through local footy, he was so far off the radar he didn't get a rookie pick.

There just seems to be so much hype round the TAC , and if the hype is there, people will take the risk still, even for early picks. But once the hype has gone they are totally off the radar.

Would have Hill, Gresh, Billings and Savage there to show him a few tricks and training habits. I like it.

We need to build a finals team, and the deficiencies of the current list means we haven't had a good spread of talent across all lines. If you look at WCE as an example, they have a balanced team with strengths across the ground, and that's how you consistently win.
