Give me a reason to believe Geelong, right now I'm on the brink of spending money on a lost cause.

To reference the work of Joe Abercrombie "Ah, lost causes. My favourite."

I'm not looking for hope or belief, those are intuitive intangibles not logical ones. What I do think is we have plenty who will do whatever they can to give a good account of themselves, even if in a last stand. Sometimes that's all you can ask for.

Let’s not think it’s gonna be easier without Rioli. Petrucelle is a speed freak!

That's a very silly comment. It will be easier as one is a star and the other isn't good enough to get selected. However I agree it won't be the difference.

Montagna pretty cluey I think. We start slow because our mindset is to be slow and cautious as per our game plan. We don’t have an aggressive approach, so we don’t start well in finals. It’s a mindset!
Must change this! Bring the intent and look to move it more quickly. Slow ball movement just plays into eagles hands!
Over to you C. Scott 3-10 man!

That makes sense but does it follow during the season when we play the same game plan

Thats an interesting observation... please explain ..?
Our players and coaches have been saying "our best is good enough" for years and years whenever we were in a down spot (eg after loss to Collingwood). I wish they would stop parroting this stupid line and start saying the truth - that they are not doing the basics right (eg kicking, front and centre, spoiling) and they need to be better. That's it - and then come out and make a statement on the field with actions. Enough with Chris Scotts smart ass comments about how no one understands anything except for him and his 6 selectors. He really did make himself look like a complete fool on Friday night - karma IMO.

They were + Lions 🦁 were massacred. At least both teams had a good crack + the games were enjoyable to watch, until the feet were on their throats.
Also, it was Lions’ first Final in 10 (?) years, only Rich + Dodgey had played Finals.

I still prefer the players making an effort instead of our dour style.
A certain Allen Christensen may have played one or two previously as well...
And speaking of AC, he was pretty good. Took one mark against two tigers on the wing that reminded me of his great moment in the 2011 GF. He also showed the rest how to put it through the big sticks as well.

We have been treading water for years.
Being honest i'm not sure how we have finished as high as we have the last few years with the ordinary game we have been playing.
Maybe the comp isn't as strong as it once was...don't know.
My current theory is as follows...

Our home ground advantage, which sees us winning most home games, is actually a disadvantage, for two main reasons:

1. We make the finals most years with an under-strength team - and then get smacked.
2. We finish higher up the ladder than we rightfully should and therefore miss out on top draft picks.

One solution would be to develop and play an MCG-suited game style, even if it makes life harder at home. That would mean better picks while we build a team and then a red hot chance when we are good enough to make finals.

They have a facility specifically for this at Deakin. Trained there for mostly all the preseason while GMHBA was having work done. They intentionally set the boundary sizes to the mcg.

Maybe that explains early wins over the pies and tigers at the ‘G...
More seriously, I think that as the season progressed we seemed to revert to a KP game style.

Actually, Finey made a related argument on Footyology this week. Basically, KP home advantage + father/sons + Danger-go-home = inflated H&A win ratio + finals losses + slim draft pickings.

Scott has a significantly higher H&A win ratio than Clarkson. Sort of proves a point, doesn’t it.
