AFL are investigating betting irregularities from two games in Round 20. 1 game had more then 10 times the expected outlay on it and another game close to that. Round 20 of the AFL season was the biggest betting round in AFL this year and not by a little bit either. The second biggest this year for example was half of what Round 20 was.

I cant see corrupt Gil doing anything about this though

Even if this is true, it isn't necessarily anything nefarious. Especially considering the relatively low amounts bet on AFL compared to other sports.

I'm assuming the games of interest would be:

Essendon-Port: someone may have known something was rotten at bomberland, Port opened the betting around 2.9 and started the game around 2.30; so big money was definitely bet on Port, and a lot could have then been bet on the other side once the odds stabilised to lock in a profit
Adelaide-St Kilda: this was the game a few saints players were reported to have a virus
Freo-Geelong: Geelong odds actually came in over the week for Geelong, despite losing quite tamely
Giants-Swans: Giants were looking pretty weak and started way too short

Another thing that could skew the betting stats is big multis getting up. Eg. If some punter wins 300k from some multi and had the afl as a last leg (or two), does the bookie treat that multi as a say 200k bet on the last leg? (which it effectively is) That bookie then hedging their position with other bookies/exchanges increases turnover even further.

Big punters experimenting in the betfair market is another way that stats could easily be skewed. Especially at low odds.

This is widely known but didnt see it mentioned here

GWS wanted to bring Patton back in via the NEAFL about 6 weeks ago and he refused to play. Said he wanted to prepare for next year instead. He was medically cleared etc. Just gave up. If the team makes the Grand Final he may regret that decision one would think. Surely he would ruck ahead of Mumford if he was fit?

Wouldn’t ruck ahead of Mumford. He’s not a ruck.

Understandable he’s taking his time. He’s up to three reco’s now.

And after suffering three of them 'medically clear to play' probably doesn't have the same trustworthy ring to it that it used to.

Also makes a mockery of him trying to make a move to the Pussies.
Look I'm a Cats fan and I agree
With the story of Jack Steven going around is close to true, and his claiming Mental Health problems? It's nearly a get out of jail for free, which it's looking like Saints will get peanuts which is sad for the Saints.
