20 AFL listed named for the Grand Final with Stack making his return from injury to try and prove himself ready for the AFL Grand Final if we get through. Williamstown are a team that have had the wood on us in recent years and we finally got that monkey off our backs by beating them at Williamstown earlier this year by 51 points. After coming so close a couple of years ago against Port and then going out in straight sets it's hopefully our time to finally win the premiership that McRae so richly deserves.

Looks a decently balanced team this, though it may have some weaknesses Williamstown will hope to exploit.

Weaknesses:

- lack of physical strength. 11 of the selected players are still genuinely in the developmental stage of their careers. The 2017 Grand Final team had about 9 players you would describe as in the developmental stage of their careers.

- only likely to be about 5-6 players over the age of 25, so very few players with a great depth of experience.

- Novice key defenders in Miller and Balta.

- Small forward brigade not necessarily specialised bar Butler, after him you have possibly Stack, Weller, possibly Grewar if he plays, maybe Naish as well. Aarts will be missed. Cannot recall a Richmond team firsts or seconds without at least 2 specialised small forwards for a few years now.

Strengths

- Pace. Menadue, Markov, Butler, Moore, Balta, are lightning fast and there are plenty of other players who can shift as well. Carried a load of slow players in 2017, Maric, Hampson, Lloyd, Miles, Lennon, Ellis at least were slow types. I think Townsend may be our only slow player this time.

- Class. Mcintosh, Ross, Butler, Stack are genuine AFL footballers. Two are recent premiership players and two have shown brilliant AFL form this year despite being first year players. Egg-Smith, Menadue, Naish, Chol, Balta have made a decent impression at AFL level this season as well. Pickett looks well capable of hurting teams at this level. I would say only Miller, English and possibly Collier-Dawkins are of questionable class at this level at this time.

- Cohesion. For a reserves team...up to 15 of these guys have played more than half the season together.

- Huge motivation. In 1904 where we took a principled stance and forfeited the Grand Final against North Melbourne because we refused to accept an insipid cheating umpire who could not follow simple objective rules throughout the finals series, Williamstown was the germ of a club that entered a 20 pound shortfall in their annual accounts that they blamed on us. This was their expected share of the gate takings had the GF gone ahead. I for one will never forget this disgraceful example of blame accounting and I have no doubt it will fire our boys on to great heights on Sunday.

Go Tigers. Eat em alive. Or dead. It doesn't matter.

Stack named in the vfl team and got they training with flying colours!!
2 winning grand finals in a week for the stack man coming up potentially!!
🤞🐯
Let it go, it's not going to happen.

Dimma saying we’ll be resting players- possibly Chol, Butts,Pickett.
It’ll be a huge challenge for the VFL listed players to step up and play the Richmond way. We’ve managed to win games throughout the year when ravaged by injury by players coming in and playing roles.

I hope we don't rest anyone. We looked rusty in the first half against the Cats and I don't doubt that the bye contributed to that. I'll watch with interest to see whether Collingwood start similarly slow against GWS. I'd be treating this game as an audition for potential vacancies in our AFL Grand Final. KMac, Stack, Pickett, Chol, Balta, Ross, Butler and Mendaue should be chomping at the bit to show their stuff on Sunday. Just run them.

Balmy just said we won’t be resting players just limiting game time

Happy to hear that too. Would be a big moral boost if we can get up in the vfl and players would have to be filthy if they missed out incase they are required. No reason why they can’t play both and what better way to earn a spot than by bringing home a flag tomorrow. Go Tiges!!

Thats what Richo said today, and we'll get an idea after half time who's in the mix.
His opinion Ross for Graham, and if Broad doesn't come up after 8 days then Stack if he has a good game could replace him.

Last time I watched a game at Princess Park we knocked Carlton out of the finals race (a glorious moment in the history of our club, even though we were but cellar dwellers that year). Cans were $2 and I spent the game standing next to Robbie Muir (who was a gentleman off the field, not the 'mad dog' he was known for on it). Best day at the footy.
