Do you actually think that the club is not seething about the Prelim result?

Buckley said he wasn’t going to be able to watch the GF as he was not over the Prelim. At the Brownlow Simpson asked him “are you out of the cave yet”, having experienced the same disappointment himself.

Maybe you have seen back slapping and rejoicing at Prelim loss by Eddie and others - I haven’t.

So this idea “we have to hold the club to account”, as if they have been prancing around in self satisfied delirium is a figment of your imagine.

Of course I am disappointed - but the vacuous and hollow rantings here of so many that “we accept mediocrity “ is trite, uninformed and completely without evidence.

Melb is the poster child for accepting mediocrity - Prelim to Wooden spoon contender in 1 season.

You should be a little more respectful towards the club and players you support, and cease with unfounded accusations.

????
Losing two big games by such a small margin makes us mediocre I take it?
Our performance against GWS was mediocre albeit spirited for a quarter. I’m happy to stand by that claim. Mediocre relative to our capabilities. We lack the killer instinct that the best sides have.

The most frustrating thing being that we demonstrated how capable we were in patches of games throughout the season. For whatever reason we couldn’t put it together consistently, and sure partial credit for that has to be given to the opposition not allowing us to produce it, but it’s bloody frustrating to see such a high ceiling in terms of our capability being produced so inconsistently.

None of this diminishes my passion for the club or how “valid” I am as a supporter either. I love this club and even in bitter disappointment I’m still immensely proud of who we are, what we stand for and how we go about it.

It doesn’t mean I won’t call a spade a spade. And everyone is equally welcome to dissent and criticise my assessment.

We have a huge ceiling with our current list but I also fear they’re fast approaching a cliff in terms of list demographic. We need to position ourselves to take advantage of opportunities and not squander them, because this lot deserve much more than a couple of bridesmaid finishes.

Now with this I am totally with you.
We do seem to have moments where we are awful listless and then can show how good we can be.
But as you are now saying doesn't mean we are mediocre as a club. As I said in an earlier post we have played in nine prelims in the 2000s second to Geelong who have ten.
Don't know why we seemed damned when it comes to big finals but I'm sick of it also

I think we’re all really on the same page.

What others have said about us playing above ourselves so regularly and putting ourselves in positions beyond what our expectations of the squad are is definitely a part of it. We overachieve regularly and that sets us up for heartbreak. In that regard the club is anything but mediocre.

However, on those rarer instances we are genuinely the leader of the pack we seem to lack the killer instinct and in those situations sometimes I wonder if culturally there’s an acceptance for being good rather than being the absolute best. In that regard we seem to let ourselves down more often than you’d expect.

Our 2019 squad was somehow a Jekyll and Hyde combination of both. And again we stumbled. And again we’re frustrated :(

Yes there's something amiss and I have to admit I can't work it out as to why and what.
When we are backs against the wall like the Eagles game we find the needed passion and fire and win a game for the ages then we come out horrible next game against the Giants and are blown out of the game in the first quarter
I'm in Perth but I remember reading once about us not rising to big finals and grand final games might be due to the players so used to playing in front of big crowds that they perhaps don't get the "rush" in the big stages. Certainly doesn't hold Richmond of late back.
It's unbelievable what we go thru with our losing Grand Finals, I'm batting at two wins ten losses fn unbelievable.
Totally agree with you our squad is really good, a big forward would be great. But mentally we need to improve massively

Yes we are, almost always make it to big finals/grand finals, most attendance pretty much every year biggest brand in the afl.
If that's not great then no one is and don't tell me Richmond they were a joke for 37 years
None of that crap makes us great.

Not prepared to answer ok
I'll assume it's a yes then. Let's see drug cheating salary cap cheating wooden spoons aplenty no finals wins in an eternity.
Yep they're great and you're a great judge.
The answer is no, they’ve won none nothing recently enough to considered great.

Please don’t follow up with another stupid question, either make your point or don’t.

The only difference is that Richmond have won 2 flags in 3 years and we have won 2 in 30 years, we are not a great club, we are just a good honest club
