After 30 completed seasons in the AFL era, which premiership team do you rate as the best and why?

The lions by a country mile.Any other sides not even good enough to tie there shoe laces.

Disagree somewhat as I don't even think the Lions ever finished on top of the ladder. Geelong in 07 were scary good, and everyone knew by round 12 who was going to be winning the flag. The rest of the season was all about deciding who got to get the honour of being smashed by Geelong in the Grand Final.

On top makes no difference the flags count no one was more feared then them.

Brisbane Lions.

To win 3 in a row as a non vic side beating big Vic sides in the GF was amazing.

They were as tough as they were skilful. The perfect balance.

As good as they were I never felt jealous or envious of them and always enjoyed watching their games.

Didnt they play a home Prelim Final at the G as well?

I loved the Lions sides of 01-03 and obviously the Hawks achieved something stupendous with their three peat but if all those sides listed were to play one another a handful of times the side that would win most often IMO would be the Cats 07-11. Brisbane, Essendon and Carlton of their respective years would run them close and the Hawks even with one of their weaker (relatively) sides managed to actually beat us in a grand final so obviously we were beatable but for 1-22 quality across a side I think we were the best.

Individually, I would say Essendon 2000.

Absolutely swept all before them that year - in fact it's a wonder they didn't win more than just the one premiership during that era given their talent.

In terms of dynasties, it's hard to split Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn. Brisbane received fairly generous concessions during their golden years, but then again so have GWS and unlike Brisbane, they've not managed to lift the trophy. Brisbane also had to travel interstate more often than Geelong/Hawthorn, plus they didn't have nearby cannon fodder to take points off. So maybe Brisbane by a very small margin.

Carlton 95 was a slightly better than a very good side.
Brisbane Lions 3 Peat was the best side IMHO

Richmond has a chance to stake a claim in the next couple of years. Geelong were very good also...2007 exceptional Hawthorn Very good

If you didn't vote for Brisbane in this vote you have rocks in your head. Won 3 Grand Finals in a row against Melbourne clubs at the MCG and completely controlled the competition aside from Port for those years. Hawthorn are a close second but the 3 they won were against interstate competition. Geelong were great but a 5 year collection of their wins.

Oh look another one of these threads... Started not to celebrate the Premier achievement in football but to detract from it. 'Oh look, you may have won the premiership but you're not the greatest team of the AFL era'.

Best - Cats 07 side. Talent, the football they played, the end result in the GF
Strongest - Dons 00 side (there was zero doubt all season we were winning the flag)
The Dons were unbeatable and probably should have snagged at least one more in that era. Any other coach than Sheedy and they would have.
