The "We're Carlton, **** the rest" attitude is emblematic of why we refused to adapt to the modern administration required. There's not much wriggle room between success and failure these days, and every leg up another club gets is also a knife in the back for the rest. It would be nice to just ignore what happens and say "We'll be successful regardless" but that's not how it works now.

Another silver lining - * first draft pick has now gone out to pick 31.
beautiful work, frizz
Absolutely stinks, we get nothing last year only winning 2 games for the season, I think 7 in last 4 seasons. Have a lesser win/loss record than the Suns, yet AFL give us nothing, and everything to this manifactured club. Most of their players will move after 2 years anyhow. Retention is their problem. Stinks, stinks, stinks, stinks...
why win when you can't lose.......

It's a bit of a joke, but GCS need those picks.

Who gives a crap, we intend to trade most of our good picks this year and next year. Perfect timing for us, as we won't be focusing on the draft. Let the other teams do the whinging for us.

This would've happened last year if we weren't last.

Needed to be done. I hope the Coast Coast select and trade wisely.

Same, want them to succeed.

It's not fun having horrible teams in the league. Also hope they get those key KPP signatures early.

King, Lukosius, Rankine, Rowell and Anderson is an elite core to build around.

GC are in a far worse position than we ever were. Because of location we’ve never had the player retention issues they have.

Have never enjoyed it when we’ve been given extra assistance. If you’re continually finishing bottom and getting the high draft picks, but can’t move up and need further help, well there’s significant internal problems at a Club which ain’t the AFL’s fault.

Extra assistance simply spotlights how bad a club is being run. The saving grace (albeit small) for GC is that they aren’t located in Victoria, like us.

Thats a matter of perspective, our team has been poorly run at times and we were not given this silver spoon.

I am not advocating that we should have received anything last year or this year, im saying that regardless of how the on field result for GC was poor they should not be rewarded in this manner (they started the year quite well didnt they?).

They should be given money for teaching and facilities/administration - They have young talent and players. If the salary cap actually worked then a free market would mean that players would go to GC for money at some point - FFS they got Ablett in his prime, and a number of players from GC played on the weekend.

AFL continue to make it up as they go.

Finally someone (Sam Edmund) reporting correctly that Papley is only contracted to the end of 2021 - 2023 is his option if he wants...

Amazing all the reporting that has gone around the '2023 contract' without anyone checking the facts...

Don't think it will make a difference, but still sloppy...

Nah, fu** them. We had an old and not-quite-there list when they and GWS were introduced to the comp, rendering the next several drafts as highly compromised and severely limiting our ability to rebuild a list. We ended up going down a dark path and are only just getting our head above water now. And once again they're back with hat in hand asking for help to the detriment of our draft hand when we are trying to put the final touches on the list. Get absolutely f’ed IMO.
110% spot on, couldn't of said it better myself.

Not sure why there is so much disdain for GC. Was always going to be a struggle to build a competitive team and culture. They need the help badly. I hope to works for them.
We are Carlton, and we don't give a fu**.
I am rapt at the players we are likely to get. Papley, Betts, Martin & Butler. for starters.
What I like, is they are all exciting types, that will help our team and our fans get even more excited.
Can we just park GC and focus on the good news story, the might CFC.
We just need another B+ or A- Mid fielder (ball extractor).
doesn't work that way - when posters believe an already lopsided situation has reached titanic proportions, they vent .......

I might be in the minority here, but Gold Coast striking assistance gold does not bother me.

That club is completely and utterly ******. It will end up down the toilet without a major bailout.

Don't be offended that we missed out on proper PP last year. I take it as a compliment. Yes, we had an abominable year, but the AFL did not believe we were broken. Fast forward 12 months and they are justified in that view.

GC already have a lot of kids. More kids is not going to help them unless they sort out off-field issues hindering player retention. But the help needs to start somewhere and so.....here we are.

I feel that Weitering's name should not be allowed in this particular thread, in any context.

Rumour (started by me): Weitering will make the AA side at least three times in the next five years.

Discuss....

:p

In hindsight I think the other clubs thought Bolton was just doing a poor job with what he had.

can't recall disagreeing more with a post - I care zero for the plight of these contrived entities and their frankenstein lists......**** them to hell.....

Who cares about what GC get from the AFL, they never have and never will be relevant and not be competing with us for flags anytime in the future.

We have done our core of drafting youngsters so these picks will not really effect us.

We now have quality footballers wanting to join our great club.

Let’s focus on this plus the super young talent we already have.

Great times ahead 😍

A good, thought provoking post.

I stand beside you on this view.

They need serious help, not just in player retention.

Raising the “soft cap” in department spending could be another avenue the AFL may take.

The Gold Coast experiment is too far down the track to up and move it to Tasmania, but I would like to see expansion in the next 5-10 years.

Only my opinion but I think the AFL should’ve gone down the Tassie path first...
