Don't get salty about the Suns package, they're in a much worse position than we were.

Even when we were losing last year and the year before you could see some light. I don't think the Suns have any light anywhere right now. Pun not intended. They probably would have folded each of the last 2 or 3 years if not for the AFL propping them up, they need serious intervention.

It's even looking like King and Lukosious are already on the way out at the end of next season which is devastating. I think they also should have been given some salary cap relief as well

They should be closed up.

All I can say - thank goodness it's not just me. Caught up with some Carlton supporters for lunch today and they all agreed, every single one of them, pick 8 is too much for Papley and more importantly a pick around 20 (only because he is contracted) is about right. As I said, logic at last!!!

The other point that was raised, is that we need to keep building through the draft and therefore we shouldn't just sit back now thinking we have done the hard yards and just sell the farm. High quality kids need to keep being introduced every year with our top picks.

Food for thought!
I think you all have your Carlton glasses on, 8 is fair for a contracted player amongst the best in his position in the comp at only 23.
Cameron was pick 12 and people thought that was overs, but you'd do that deal again every day of the week.
Have to pay something to get something.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions around trading future PPs? The review won’t matter for much if GCS trade away their 2020 PPs this year (and same for the 2021 picks next year). Surely they’ll be smart enough to only use the following years' PPs in any potential trades? The AFL can't revoke them if they've already been traded

Also need to consider the draft class. pick 9 is reasonable enough. True value would be around pick 11/12.

It's called Confirmation Bias which in itself happens to be a logical fallacy :)

Let's not trade the #8 for someone we need. Who would you like to pick up with it?
One can't make one comment without putting the other pieces down. So who?

Plenty and this is ignoring anyone that might slip:

Sam Flanders
Brodie Kemp
Dylan Stephens
Cody Weightman
Jeremy Sharp
Deven Robertson

The AFL need GCS to be at least viable after all the money the have sunk in up there. If they keep getting flogged each week they'll eventually fold or get relocated

So it's a business then and not a competition.
OK, it's both but the same 'support' would not be afforded to a Melbourne based club, should it find itself in a similar predicament.
We know this and we know why, but it's simply wrong to pick and choose who you're going to help and to what extent you're going to help them.
There's no black nor white........just grey, grey and then some more grey.

What happens if Gold Coast become successful....like real successful and then maybe too successful thanks to all the support. What then?
Just saying that this competition is being manipulated and is compromised. People don't like this.

Exactly mate, not exactly a strong draft. And as you said 8 is probably worth 12 which is why I mentioned the Cameron trade, look what he was able to do. And I think Papley is every bit as good if not better than Cameron.

That's what makes me wonder if they will be allowed to trade the future first from next year.

Correct.

If we get 23yo contracted Sydney leadership member and 40 goals kicker, Tom Papley for Pick 10(after Tom Green bid) in THIS draft....SOS is a genius.

BTW, fantastic work by Agresta to first get Newman, for nothing, and now Papley out of his old mob. Great planning and execution.

EDIT: cripptonite already said it well.

So any or all of these players make more sense and are a more suitable to us than for Papley?

We'll have at least 9 picks ahead of us and unless you know what you can get in the draft is a significantly better fit for us than Papley................?

Here's the thing: If SOS thinks he can do it then he will and if he doesn't - You and this Carlton group may be wrong. :)

Let’s just leave the recruiting to the list management team at the club. They’ve done a pretty good job so far. Anyways if I have to express an opinion Pick 9 for a talented 23 year old is fine by me.
