The concessions GC have received is excessive, but I’m not really surprised. We have already hit the draft hard for kids and our focus has shifted for the next couple of years to bringing in mature talent. I don’t think it will impact us as badly as others.

All I can say is thank goodness we didn’t have massively compromised drafts when we hit the rebuild button. Imagine facing our 2015 draft if it was as compromised as next years, it would be depressing to have so many players off-limits.

We need to get our NGA system right and need to seriously put some focus there. We are one of only a few clubs without representation in the under 17’s All stars. It’s going to be extremely hard for teams to rebuild through the draft now (unless they get good NGA kids).

Not sure if someone posted it for you, but I could watch this gif all day 🙂

I was late to the SOSgif party

It might actually make it easier to get Martin.

From gc perspective they have so many good picks now, and know they've benefited heaps for free, they might just let Martin go without too much fuss.

Or harder, because they will have a lot of kids and scant number of mature players. They may decide that the need Martin even more now

For me, it’s not about what we didn’t get last year, it’s all about the AFL and manufacturing outcomes for their desired results

Makes a mockery of the word ‘competition’

I wonder would a Tassie side get looked after like this, I’m tipping we wouldn’t....

The AFL hasn't been a competition for many years now. I think of it as a stage managed series of events that is continually compromised in the pursuit of desired outcomes. ( This is distinct to saying it is corrupt or saying they are out to get us, I don't buy into that argument).

I got over being outraged by what the AFL does years ago, nothing it does surprises me these days. Having a fair and equitable competition clearly isn't it's goal.

I love the game of Australian Rules Football, I love Carlton, I have zero affection for the AFL as a league.

What do we think?

Pick 8 and 41 —> GWS
Pick 12 and 18 —> Carlton

Pick 12 and future 1st (pick 8-12) —> Sydney
Pick 25 and Papley —> Carlton

Pick 18 —> GC
Martin and future 3rd (pick 39) —> Carlton

We don't have pick 8 anymore.

Pick 9 now.

I still have a little affection for it but it's waning. Everything else is how I feel pretty much word for word

Even if Daniher doesn't end up happening, Sydney may be interested in clearing future cap space and getting two draft picks in the top 10 for the first time in however long.

So I’m reading that the Swans want to keep Papley to his contract, yet are chasing Daniher. A bit hypocritical there but they’ll have to change their tune if Daniher nominates them.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions around trading future PPs? The review won’t matter for much if GCS trade away their 2020 PPs this year (and same for the 2021 picks next year). Surely they’ll be smart enough to only use the following years' PPs in any potential trades? The AFL can't revoke them if they've already been traded
Will be made up on the fly...If it gets them a decent player that allows them to keep 1 & 2 it will be ticked off otherwise it won’t be mentioned.

It makes things a little easier for the Swans to get Daniher across the line that Essendon isn't as keen to hold him to his contract. The Papley scenario is different.
