I wouldn't necessarily say others on the list have gone past him, but the pack is definitely gaining ground quickly.

I could be completely wrong, but it seems after a good 2018 Fish expected it all to just 'happen' for him this year, and it didn't. If all goes to plan this trade period, by mid 2020 he may find himself down the pecking order, and he will have to absolutely bust his a** to get back in team, or look elsewhere for opportunity.

Worried the latter could happen.

Hope he hits the gym and has a huge pre-season and comes out firing in 2020. If he ends up traded back to WA he'll absolutely tear it up, and end up another "being traded was the kick up the backside I needed" story, of which we've already produced too many.

Not sure why so much focus on Fisher's year.

Yeah, he went 5-10% backwards, but his 2018 was way above expectations (was statistically the AFL's best teenager).

We won 1 match until mid-year, with huge pressure on coach and club. Andthen in the second half of the year he was shuffled off to a HFF.

Is anyone really surprised he didn't take another step up this year?

He comes to us, what would you expect his output to resemble, possessions/tackles/goals wise? Inside or on the spread?

Similar to Ed early on in his career 16 -17 disposals, high tackle numbers and shutting players down

Like Knight did when he was used in a game against duckwood

I actually might be in the minority here but gaff would be nearly perfect for us. Hard running link player (I suppose that we hope lob becomes like this) that would dine off cripp's work. Front end salary (If we could afford cogs). Tough to do on picks though.

If we added Martin, papley and gaff you would want to make sure that your membership entitled you to grand final tickets.

Yes - I am really surprised both he and Dow went backwards - by a lot. Fisher at least has the running pace to be able to play HFF and the brains to do something.

Because those players chose to lie back and accept what was happening?

Exactly.

I am not arguing the law - I know what it says, and I agree with it. But players have been railroaded by clubs (with the AFL's blessing) in the past, and in those circumstances, I think it's harsh to be blaming players completely unaware of the fact or circumstances of their trade, when the AFL has already signed off that trade based on paperwork submitted by the participating clubs. I have quoted some of the context below (the full source is http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/journals/ANZSportsLawJl/2006/5.pdf page 97):

However, while these are examples of how the AFL draft rules can give a player who makes it clear that he wishes to leave a club sufficient bargaining power to achieve this objective, there are also examples where players have been linked to trade deals without their knowledge, or have been mentioned as possible trades while they are in the process of negotiating new contracts with their present clubs. For example, prior to the 1999 national draft Collingwood wished to secure the services of Richmond’s Steve McKee to fill its perceived tall player needs. Richmond, meanwhile, were interested in securing a small midfielder in the mould of Collingwood’s Clinton King. A pre-national draft deal was therefore struck between the two clubs which resulted in a direct swap of the two players. The lateness of the deal, however, meant that Clinton King did not know he would be going to a new club until the following morning, and even then it was from sources other than the two clubs involved.

During the 2001 pre-draft trading period it was noted that Hawthorn’s Trent Croad went into a post season operation a Hawk and came out a Docker, Hawthorn and Fremantle having negotiated a trade deal during the time of the operation.

You can indeed argue that those players could/should have pushed back in a court of law, but for mine, the more pertinent question is what the hell was the AFL thinking, signing off on those sorts of shenanigans in the first place?

Said this before but i still reckon Fisher hasn't quite gotten over (mentally) that broken leg he suffered at the hands of that feral Hawthorn scumbag.

I am optimistic he can get back to his 2017 form with a good and invigorating pre-season.

Dow is not that far away from putting all together in my opinion, some kids just take longer to mature, but geez some of the glimpses he has shown us is very exciting, really needs to work extra hard on his goal kicking, but he will be a beauty.

I reckon we should trade where we have a surplus. For example, in my opinion the Collingwood Board have NO decent In The KNoW posters.

So I’m prepared to offer Tencentpiece OR Carlton09 in exchange for Brodie Grundy.

NO DEAL.

Having elite players is not as rewarding as reading rumours about possibly landing elite players.

Not even close!

:p

The attitude Geelong fans have on Tim Kelly is disgraceful, especially given the needs of his family. If I wanted to go home to WA, I wouldn't want to play for Freo either.

I find it distasteful that we, as a footy industry are putting the lives and families of players behind an arbitrary draft pick number (or two) ?

Also Adelaide got nadequate compensation for Dangerfield leaving, the Crows had to grin and bear it.

I just find it astonishing how caviliar some footy fans can be regarding the employment choices and family needs of players.

If a player wants to move home for family reasons, and has not reached Free Agent status, then their club should be able to trade them home to the club that bids highest. Of course Geelong should be able to trade him to Freo if they are offering more in a trade (as long as they’re matching the contract offer to Kelly).

Players have way too much power currently.

I don’t think Harry Mc’s value is zero tbh. If he was delisted in think he’d get picked up as a free agent, or the equivalent of pick 60-80, and there are worse options than taking on a 21 year old with some AFL experience, and some obvious tools to work with.

Doesn’t hurt to see if the Swans would be interested, and it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that they would be given their interest in Marchbank, who is reasonably like-for-like.

The feels when you have a Harry Mc and a Harry Mac on the list and you're discussing one's value using the other's spelling.

Gaff on one wing, Martin on the other - McKay, Gov and Chuck would be salivating too.

Yeah i was worried we were trying to trade Harry McKay there for a second, rather than Harrison Macreadie.

I had to re-read a few times haha

I believe Knight has a huge upside to him and he was thriving under Teague at the Crows a couple years back.

it is great to see players wanting to come and play for Teague, he obviously has a great persona and reputation!

PS. High five to me for doing my first multi quote

I'm yet to pop my multi-quote cherry - what does it feel like?
