Big fish in the works. May not get both paps and Martin if we land it. Elite midfielder. Don't ask who the player is.

Source: past multiple premiership player and inner sanctum member.
Hate to bring up the old 'Gun Player' argument again, but there would only be 1 or 2 elite midfielders in each club. Big fish might require 2019 and 2020 firsts?

I just can't see us passing on Papley for an elite mid when we've courted him for so long and he's publicly nominated.

The deal gets done somehow or no player ever nominates for Carlton in the near future.

In my opinion it Wouldn’t be a great precedent to set after you have courted a player, having them nominate you and then disregard for someone else.

More detailed article on Pask giving Carlton a serve on the Ellis situation:

Some pretty strong language where he's quite strong in painting Carlton as the party in the wrong, like we were the ones that backed out last minute.

TCP said it was because Ellis asked for more money once we missed out on Cogs. Another previous rumour in this thread that we lowered our offer to Ellis to try to get Cogs. Timing wise it also seems possible that when Teague was made official and given more control, he made it clear he's not interested in Ellis.

Not sure we'll ever really know for sure.

Seems a bit precious.

Went through the "process" with Carlton, which we're assuming is, what, medical, club tour, contract discussions etc. and then before the season had finished, and as other players became "available" and our salary allocation took shape, we advised him we wouldn't be bringing him on board as we had other list priorities.

So...suck it up?

How is that any different from what players like Kelly, Coniglio, Martin, Gaff, etc. do every year? Court multiple suitors, take up their time and resources and force them to factor in their possible recruitment in all other contract/acquisition planning, and then at the last minute say "sorry, I'm going somewhere else" or "actually, I'm staying put, I was never really wanting to go anywhere after all".

Anyone else reckon Barass may not be the hero we deserve ,but the hero we need ?

Anybody else reckon I am entitled to royalty payments? :p

Warner Brothers was looking for the original source of this infringement. Now they've found you! Better get a lawyer son, gonna need a real good one.
