Nope.

That was all rolling and in place before JS got there.

Champion Team of superstars cover lots of cracks for the first few years as things kind of ran down.

JS had been on the board since 1998 - so he had been there since the start of the run

Would this be the same Cricket Australia culture that saw us win 3 consecutive Cricket World Cups - 1999, 2003 & 2007, and where we won the 03 & 07 tournaments (during his tenure as CA CEO), without losing a match?

Maybe he can bring some of that culture with him
He wasn’t CEO for 1999.
2003 and 2007 was largely the team and coaching structure in place before he came in.

Lee, Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden, Martyn, Symonds, Clarke, Bevan, Gillespie, Hussey. They’d have won World Cups and test matches with Scooter from the muppets as CEO.

I liked this bit the best:

'Sutherland has strong Geelong roots ... with experience within the AFL industry, having been Carlton’s finance manager in the mid-1990s.' 🤔

Good news, looks like we're going to be able to afford Jeremy Cameron in 2021, plus maybe Patrick Cripps and Nat Fyfe too...

Everyone needs to chill. For some of the keyboard warriors on here to suggest they're better placed to make decisions around board appointments and corporate governance requirements of an AFL club is laughable. Were you involved in developing the selection criteria or conducting the interviews?

Any suggestion that due process wasn't followed and the football club just blindly appoints people to board positions is ignorance in the extreme. Boards, at any level are bound by very strict operational and procedural protocols - no different at BHP than it is at GFC. Current board members are not going to expose themselves to prosecution and professional liability by just making a seat available for any muppet that doesn't know what he's doing.

Feel free to share your own corporate credentials if that's not the case.

But I thought that we the members voted for the Board. Looks like we don't.

So I take it he probably will be Cook's replacement?
Geez, I hope not. This is the bloke who, along with Peever, stuffed Cricket Australia.

The talk is future President. Don't want him anywhere near that role either. Also one of the worst sporting leaders when it comes to the media.

JS is very well connected.

His grandfather was JR Darling - Geelong Grammars 30 year Head Master from 1930-1960 odd. He was a legend.

His father was a very long serving staff member at GGS; including being head of Glamorgan - the Toorak campus - for many years.

JS is an old boy as well, of course.

He was 12th Man for Victoria in an the 1900-91 Shield final as well, having had a long family and personal connection with Melbourne Uni Cricket Club. He was a medium quick bowler with a high action. Bit like his son, but not as athletic.

He is a long time GFC supporter, however his Admin CV is not a flash as it may seem when looked at in detail.

This appointment would definitely, at least in part, be 'who you know.'

So is he going to put every Geelong game behind the foxtel paywall like he did with ODI cricket?

Don't like this guy at all, he is the modern day CEO type, sell out the future for short term gains.
Apparently the only players eligible to play for the Cats will have to come from the NSW state team.....

Only kidding - all the best :)

Co-opting him to the Board = Bad
Appointing him as President = Worse
Appointing him as CEO = Worst

Selection criteria or interviews which permit any of these things are s**t.
