So you would trade a pick knowing that it would end up in the hands of another team that is also borderline when it comes to making the finals?
Sorry but I am far more ruthless than that.
i agree that you do what strengthens your position at the time but you also don't give a free kick to a traditional rival
That’s not ruthless, that’s playing silly buggers. It’s up to Carlton to worry about our own backyard.

Anyone worried re: games being played in the media for Martin and Papley, just listen to Wells (Geelong) now say that a deal for Steven (St. Kilda) is a long way off. Yet, Steven will be at Geelong with 99.3% certainty by the end of the trade period.

All games at this point.
No not really just usual nonsense they’ve got to fill another two weeks so hype and sensationalism is the order of the day & night.

Oh, you mean like * selecting a father/son "Just to keep the bastards honest."

Ok for them but not ok for us? Hmmmm

Reading HS today says Boyd retired with 2 years to go on contract saving club 2 million— how come if buddy retires early swans have to keep that in there cap as they did with Tippett ??

Boyd was traded for.

Buddy was a FA.

The Buddy ruling stops clubs from manipulating the FA system. Otherwise you could offer a free agent eleventy billion dollars, knowing their current club can't match that. Then the player miraculously retires, with eleventeen billion dollars still left on his contract.

Actually a sensible distinction by the AFL (I know, I'm shocked too).

Pure speculation - Eddie's contract at Adelaide is reported to be around $500k, I reckon he comes to Carlton for Pick 69, Adelaide pay half his salary ($250k), and Carlton negotiate a reduction on the remainder of his salary so we're only coughing up $50-100k.

Why would Adelaide do that?

It's rumoured that they will demand 2 top ten picks for Daniher, plus the pick that they have already which would be there or thereabouts depending on how it changed after the recent GC compensation.
So, in that scenario they would then have 3 picks to go chasing mids with.

There first pick is mid 30’s, and who really cares...their forward line will be led by Mitch Brown and McKernan, that’s like Digby Morrell and Paul Bower [emoji23]

This is the perfect draft to sign up more flaky outside runners to top up the list[emoji6]

Sorry to be boring and to make the next 2 weeks boring, but our trade season is already set:

Papley will be at Carlton for Pick 9'ish
Martin will be at Carlton for an early 2nd'ish.
Betts will be at Carlton for laughs n giggles at Young Reid's expense.
One of Butler or Cutler MAY be at Carlton for not much.

That's it.

All the excitement of discovery for us peeps has been had. Now the LM's just do the paperwork.

Meanwhile the circus will be in overdrive. We'll all willingly submit to it, enjoy it, curse it and generally have a ball.

Then onto the next episode. The Draft. Then Pre-season etc etc

Riley Knight?

I'm more than happy for Essendon to have 2 picks inside 10 and spend it on another Parish and Francis when Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay are available.
...and trying to win and deliver the ball to a forward line that comprises of AMT, Stringer, Mitch Brown, McKernan, perhaps Hooker and Smith if he can get fit.
