I thought it would be good to create a thread where Richmond Historical queries/questions can be posted to be answered or investigated.
It will allow a central place for BF posters to post their questions about Richmond's Seniors/Reserves/U19s/VFA/Officials/PuntRoadGround/Players/Coaches/Awards history
(You may find your answer at www.tigerlandarchive.org, but if not , just post the query below)

Hi rbartlett great thread and love your historical background work on the RFC, so much so that I have ordered your latest updated book on Richmond!
Where can I get a guernsey just like the one on the front of your book and avatar?!?
Some of my questions are...is it true Houli played down at Spotswood?!? and is he the sole AFL player to have played there?!?
I have an interest in footy guernseys and wonder about the origins of the RFC Club's and our nickname and mascot, where we always the Tigers?!?
Cheers...

Thanks champ.
Well the book cover one is Roger Dean's , and its in the Museum. You'll prob have to end up getting a replica I think the Superstore might sell some. Or just search ebay.
We've had a few players who had played with Spotswood - Bill Williams comes to mind (he's in the book), Dick Harris played mid-week with Spotswood, Doug Reynolds did as well (he also played in Footscrays 1954 flag).
Always the Tigers from around 1908/1910 era. Once or twice a press paper called us the Wasps, but that was never endorsed by the club.

I feel a bit high after reading that! Thanks!!!! :D

Cheers Rhett , can you post the norm smith medalists in ea of our flags or was BOG recognised in any form prior

Worth noting in every Richmond Grand Final since the inception of the Norm Smith Medal, a Richmond player has won it (regardless of the W/L result)

1980 - Kevin Bartlett
1982- Maurice Rioli
2017 - Dustin Martin
2019 - Dustin Martin.

No Norm Smith Medal prior to 1979. The AFL Season Record did retroactively award BOG for Grand Finals (using a panel of experts) though.

Wasn't this backdated to about 1965 and the likes of Hendrie, your dad, Dipper and "Swan" McKay got the nod?

Yes. But I havent posted that here because that was an initiative from the AFL Record I believe. It was never endorsed by the AFL and no medals were awarded for such list.
