Brady Rawlings?

Turn it up mate.

He was arguably the best lock down tagger & small defender that we have ever had.

He was just as good or better than Jacobs and he'd get the ball a dozen more times.

I mostly agree, although I'd say one of the best.

Nonetheless, I remember the surprise the first time Brady won, the greater surprise the second time, and the widespread remark that Brady's second win reflected very poorly on the overall quality of our list.

Macmillan being so far down this list is quite something.

Higgins was our leading Brownlow vote getter. Those umps are sharp.

Higgins had a bunch of games with high 30 possessions early in the year when we were losing and playing like s**t and he's been all over media st for the last 18 months. The umps notice those sort of things and will look for him cos of media profile.

Higgins was s**t and stat padding under Brad.
Looked like he was kicking the ball in frustration.
Took Miller cost him so many accolades this year

Didn't Brady himself say it was a poor reflection on our efforts if a tagger can win 2 Syds?

Amazing really how the game has changed so much. It does not seem that long ago there where 36 taggers on the field. Fullback accountable for FullForward Back pocket accountable for Forward pocket Every player had His man and you where totally responsible for him no matter if you where a Ruck or a Rover It is strange how we call them taggers these day but probably my fault for being a relatively old fuddy dud.

When I was a kid midfielders and forwards didn't play the sort of defensive lock down roles they do now. That all changed in the 80s.

The ages of the places 6-11 in the count.

28, 31, 26, 28, 27, 33.

This is why we are a middle of the road team.

We've got quality older blokes but our 21-25's aren't doing enough. Our 21s and under look promising, but by the time that group are all playing consistently impactful AFL footy half of those oldies will be almost done.

A few more things from the night:

- While walking down Epsom Rd two blokes yell out, "get in the car!", turns out the 2 guys who drove me to the event, 1 was the founder of Auskick and Todd''s sponsor. The other used to work with Narni.

- Table near us had a very vocal hatred of *.
They also had a Bruce like love for Sammy, which made me think Gaso was in town.

- Sam Wright's face lit up when RZ mentioned the intercept against Goddard and that goal with the lucky sideways bounce. He was genuinely humbled by our appreciation of his work over the journey.

His third win occurred when he was playing more of a creative rather than negating role. What people often failed to appreciate about Brady was that he ran hard both ways and got involved in scoring chains.

When the current batch of 21-25 year olds are filling out places 6-11 in the count, we will be slagging off the next batch of 21-25 year olds. Rinse and repeat.

I was going to do this calc but in the end......didn't get to it.

My hunch was it wasn't going to look great for us - I didn't realise we would be at the complete wrong end of the stick.

There isn't really a lot to be said about this stat - Bard has left us in a world of hurt and its going to take more than Shinboner spirit to see us through the next few years.

We have to hope like hell that TT and his fellow youthful mates progress.

That's the problem, the current batch of 21-25 years old are few and far between. If they were any good they would already be in the to 10 of our B&F and we would be a much betters team.

In 3 years time we should have a good group of them coming through. Zurrhar, Larkey, Simpkin, LDU etc.

It's why we should be invested in young talent for the forseeable future.
