I think the reason it makes sense for WC is they are in the window plus the weaker drafts. It makes sense for Geelong as they can easily chase Steven and their targets now. I still think it works in Cats favour on paper but i want to see what they do with the picks now

Also the highest pick is 14. 2020 1st likely to be 14-18.

So they're not giving away a premium pick, like top 8.

AFL use points to determine who 'wins' but points aren't really relevant and undervalue premium picks.
GWS got pick 7 & pick 7 for Treloar and 2nd rounder. Lower points value but got 2 x top 10 picks.

The difference is a rumour may or may not be true, but when you can see the source of the rumour, and therefore know that it is complete bullshit, it should not be on here.
I don't agree. 90% of what's posted on here is bullshit. At least that bullshit is somewhat on topic. Even if something is wrong, which it mostly is in here, it can still lead to interesting discussion.

I don't think trying to shut down discussion is a good thing just because you don't like the source. That's an opinion that goes beyond just a footy thread, but that's a far bigger discussion :p

Everyone should simply understand that if something may sound too good to be true, it usually is.
You also don't get something for giving away nothing.

We simply need to nail down our targets and leave a little in reserve, should we manufacture something that may not have been there earlier.
Had have Coniglio come off, this would have been an extraordinary trade/FA period for us.

It will still be a good one but now without the romance of some 'big fish' That's OK.

None you go head to head and make sure everyone is accountable. No different to Dangerfield Ablett Selwood Kelly and Duncan.

They needed to use yeo to tag Cripps last year. Shuey is 30+. Gaff plays off he wing.

You can have the best midfield assemble, but they are uselesss when you got a bad ruck. They got Nic Nat which gives them almost 1st option at each contest. Might as well go all in with JJK and Nic Nat getting in the back end of their careers.

You really think that 'Murphy is going to Brisbane' or 'Fisher is going back to Perth' lead to an 'interesting discussion'?

West coast get Kelly and Pick 57 (3rd rd) and 2020 3rd rd

Geelong get 14 (1st), 2020 1st, 24 (2nd), 33 (2nd)

Well played Cats
Values him as worth ~3590 dvi points, which is more than Pick One. Unbelievable.
Send 9 and something else to geelong for 14 and 17. Get paps and martin done
I'm with you, HCJ. I'd be right in their ear offering our 2020 2nd and 9 for those picks.

Then 14 and 41 to Swans for Paps + 17 to Suns for Martin and change.

West Coast just got reamed.....
Sometimes you gotta risk it for a biscuit.

May have paid overs but if he pushes them over the line for another flag or two then no one will be complaining about the cost.

Kelly, 57 & a future 3rd

14, 24, 33 & future 1st.

Cats now have 14, 17, 24, 33, 36 and next year have swapped their 3rd for WCE's 1st. Not a bad hand...

Cat's clock is ticking thought those picks won't make their team better now.

Need a decent Ruck..... now their board can go crazy over Grundy

Happy to not talk if you like - figured we'd both moved on and could be civil :p

We're probably somewhat in agreeance here anyway. Yeah, the cost of a "truly elite" mid (ie. Neale, Treloar, Fyfe types) would have been too high, but just because that's where you draw the "elite" line, that doesn't mean to rumour-bearer or source does too. Could easily be a Brayshaw, Viney, Prestia, Parker, Duncan, Shiels, Hunter, Hopper etc. Some of those players are unrealistic, of course, so don't pay too much mind to them as specific targets, just examples of players who could be secured for a top 10 pick, and who could be deemed "elite" depending on who is doing the deeming.

Hell, Jack Steven, Dan Hannebery, Shaun Higgins, Tom Rockliff, Steve Motlop - they were all referenced as "guns" and "stars" and "elite" across various channels, and the trades/contracts/compensation for them all landed well short of high first round territory.

But they aren't are they.

"just examples of players who could be secured for a top 10 pick" I doubt some of those would be secured for a top 10 pick and we don't have a top 10 pick - we have a pick that is likely to be anywhere from 7 to 14.

Anyway it is all moot, I was sceptical the deal would eventuate and it didn't.

Not really. Treat the other two picks as needed to upgrade the first round picks to top 10 picks and it effectively similar to the Treloar deal of 2 x pick 7
