been going for a month now, really starting to enjoy it. super tough but i am definitely on the improve (slowly)

Don't you just loving the feeling of collapsing to the ground and laying on your back for five minutes after a workout?

One of the things I love about CrossFit. The community. I couldn't imagine going to the gym to workout on my own in my 80s, or even in my 50s, but surrounded by a group of awesome people. Hell yeah.

The CrossFit Open starts tomorrow. A five week online competition that is the first step to the CrossFit Games. Around a quarter of a million people enter it. For most of us it's just a chance to see how far we have progressed since the last open and work on our weaknesses.

First workout of the CrossFit Open is:

10 rounds for time of:
8 ground-to-overheads, 95 lb.
10 bar-facing burpees

Time cap: 15 minutes

Quite happy about this one. Ground to overhead and burpees are two of my strengths so should do quite well at this one.

How'd you go mate?

I got through it in 14.27. Was a ripper.

That's a great time. I got to the last round. If by ripper you mean it ripped your heart and lungs out, correct.

2nd workout of the CrossFit Open is:

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
4 dumbbell thrusters
6 toes-to-bars
24 double-unders

50/35 lb. dumbbells

This will be an interesting one for me. Dumbbell thrusters will be ok, if slightly heavy. Slow and steady on those. Toes-to-bars are a strength of mine so this is the part I will need to put my foot down. I struggle a bit with double unders. But only 24 each time should make them manageable.

That 20 minutes was so frigging long.

3rd workout of the CrossFit Open is:

For time:
21 deadlifts, 225 lb.
21 handstand push-ups
15 deadlifts, 225 lb.
15 handstand push-ups
9 deadlifts, 225 lb.
9 handstand push-ups
21 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk
15 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk
9 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk

Time cap: 9 min.

Love deadlifts. Probably my favourite of the weightlifting movements.

I haven't done it yet. Doing it at 5:30 tonight. Will let you know how I go.

Got to the end of the 9 handstand pushups. I still had 30 seconds left when I finished but my back was feeling a little tight so wasn't going to risk it for one or two more reps.

4th workout of the CrossFit Open is:

For time:
30 box jumps, 24 in.
15 clean and jerks, 95 lb.
30 box jumps, 24 in.
15 clean and jerks, 135 lb.
30 box jumps, 24 in.
10 clean and jerks, 185 lb.
30 single-leg squats
10 clean and jerks, 225 lb.
30 single-leg squats
5 clean and jerks, 275 lb.
30 single-leg squats
5 clean and jerks, 315 lb.

Time cap: 20 minutes

One of the girls at our box is currently on top of the world for this workout. Was amazing to see her do it. She's only tiny so to see her clean and jerk almost 100 kilos was awesome.

Haven't checked in since week 1, but I've now completed this open. I haven't been doing much crossfit the past couple of months, so I'm generally pretty happy with how this has gone for me.

20.1 - Finished 14.27 - 89th percentile
20.2 - 447 reps - 65th percentile. This was a terrible one for me, I ripped my hand early on and then struggled with the t2b. Probably a result of my hands not being gymnastics conditioned with a couple months off.
20.3 - 93 reps - 79th percentile. A huge improvement on the last time this was a workout. Got a few reps onto the heavy bar. I don't think I got past the 15 HSPU's last time.
20.4 - 149 reps - 59th percentile. This one annoyed me that it was my worst result, since barbell work/barbell cycling is probably my strongest area. I've never done a pistol squat before this workout. Took me ages to get one during the workout. It wasn't until about 10 reps in and 19 mins on the clock that they actually started to flow. If I was ever going to repeat a workout, this would be it. I know I can move that 100kg barbell and that would've really elevated me. That said, I'm a glass half full person these days and leaderboard doesn't bother me, so I reflect back and proud that I've acquired a new skill.
20.5 - 222 reps - 80th percentile. Loved this workout. Haven't done any MU's since the last open, so very happy to get through 22.

Been a huge fan of this open.
