I think we're missing something important with Pittonet. When he isn't subbing for krooz in the 1sts, he will be battling away in the VFL.

Now replace Phillips and Lobbe with just about the best VFL ruckman this year (finished behind Tom Campbell in the JJ Liston). And a one-year older TDK.

Now think what that will do for development and balance of our VFL midfield. And in turn the implications for our seniors....

BRING ON 2020!

And we won't have to play all of Lobbe, Phillips & TDK in one team which didn't work.

Now it will just be Pittonet as no.1 ruck and TDK supporting.
If Krooz gets injured and Pittonet steps up to AFL, TDK gets exposure as no.1 ruck at VFL level.

Good change.

If you dig around on the Hawks board and read their thoughts on Pittonet before he asked to be traded, they seem to like him as a developing ruck quite a lot. Hasn't had a real crack at AFL level yet and is only young. Could be our Nank, who knows!

How about now? :p

Didn't you say keeping next year's first was a better idea than using it on Wines?

I've always said that hold onto next years first with the view of using it for a premium target and I'd consider Caldwell a premium target.
i.e Do not use next years first in any deal or combination of Papley, Martin, Betts, Butler etc.
It's not a matter of getting more players but just the right ones.

I also consider Caldwell more of the right type for us than for Wines and he'd cost less with more mileage to be had.
I also feel the opportunity to prise Caldwell out of GWS may be there.

Found this, though no mention of 2020

Clearly we need to draft, Tochukwu Oparaocha ... simply based on his name.
Tochi is a great lump of a lad that has been part of a reasonably successful group at Mill Park (won U17's Div 1 flag last year, lost U19 Div 2 G-Final this year), however, has a lot of potential but probably lacks ability and smarts to play AFL level. Would probably be a decent VFL player.

Paul Sidhu is a jet of a kid and has all the attributes to be an AFL player but doesn't appear to have the heart/commitment. Also has had hammy issues in the past.

Cam Wild is a good prospect, with plenty of ability and mongrel, but plays like a twit. Constantly getting himself rubbed out at the tribunal for throwing hay makers at anyone in his vicinty.

Fair enough - I just think Carlton is 'short' actual developed A grade players (between the arcs) and very 'long' skinny runts ( developing kids) - maybe one or two of them come on in the next couple of years - maybe not. Going for 'a' Martin isn't exactly an 'endorsement' of some of the highly fancied youth on the list already...and the clock is ticking on the genuine A and B graders in Murphy/Kreuzer/Ed and Simmo....hence 'a' Wines is (to my mind) certainly as good as Shiel and not far behind Coniglio for Carlton needs. Your interest in Caldwell (to me) is just another developing high potential youth - we have plenty on the books already...dont we?

Back then I wouldn’t have thought that - because they’d need to sell it to their members that the captain is leaving but we managed to get overs.

Now that TLA have leaked the news about them approaching us for Ollie - I can’t see him being too popular at Alberton, so they may very well take 9.

Can you shed any light on why TLA would have leaked this?

I can't see the logic in it since they know we are committed and tied up with Papley & Martin. We'll only trade for Wines if we have enough time and assets to do so afterwards.

They've now put Wines in a really shit position where he likely can't get to us this year, and will have to stay at Port in a really awkward situation where now a lot of Port fans are pissed at him, and maybe his coaches and teammates will question his commitment and whether he'll leave at the end of next year. Made even more awkward by the fact he's co-captain.

Unless they're pushing for Port to trade Wines this year, whether it be us or someone else?

EDIT: Lol at the filters changing 'pi ssed' but i can say 'shit'

I can guarantee Sidhu doesn't care about footy.

To me it's about types and I just see Caldwell as being a mature individual that will come on quick e.g. Taranto, McCluggage, Walsh etc.

Coniglio would have perfect for us and I see Caldwell in a similar vein and a better fit for the CFC than for Wines and even Gaff, all considered....Crazy right? :)

Only making an assumptions here C4[2]Yo`DooR

I would of assume Ollie Wines have told his manager he doesn't enjoy playing footy there (it does happen) and the manager was like "Let me see what I can do".

I am just speculating.

Cog was perfect as he was a both inside and outside midfielder and snag goals. Goal Kicking mids!

Makes sense to me (fwiw) - I never expected to see a first year player (between the arcs) perform like Walsh did for us this year- if Caldwell is a ready made AFL player - then he is already clearly better than a few of the developing (and expensive) kids we are carrying right now - and (like you) I reckon VFL is a graveyard for as long as Carlton doesn't run the whole thing - juggling part timers along with listed players and trying to get development AND game plan ingrained across 2 teams - without real control or decent investment is holding back Carlton.
