all good

but we downgraded jones to taylor
gave away cameron

got nothing in while others improved

good work not to cave to the dons, but we didnt do anything for the list

So we can agree we didn't improve the list immediately.

But we did not make it worse really either. Jones to Taylor is only a slight downgrade.

Not a success nor a failure, but what we did do is show we wouldn't get ****ed by external forces.

Worked for geelong and hawthorn and wc and rich.
Geelong and Hawthorn got golden crops, West Coast and Richmond traded for established players as well to form their premiership-winning core
Carlton, Melbourne, St Kilda, Brisbane, Gold Coast, even Richmond prior to 17 had many busted drafts that had led them nowhere

Not saying that premiership teams can't be built through accumulating high picks in the draft but it requires that the kids actually develop into stars and the club doesn't face retention problems. It's a lottery and not really any more a reliable method of building a successful list than trading for established talent imo.

I also think that we will trade some of our later picks for picks next year.

Maybe could get an early pick + Campbell + Gulden + Daniher.

That would be a treasure trove and complementing 2019 picks 5, 25, 32.

Not bending over is one thing. We also haven't landed a gun since 2013. Any other team had a drought that long?

What would be worse is paying through the absolute roof. We had a maximum, we offered it. What do you want us to do exactly?

Do you really want us giving the equivalent of upwards of 3-4 first rounders because that’s what they wanted.

based on what we know, cant argue against us standing firm

time will tell, i just think we have in the past traded well to win 2 flags

seems reluctant to do it anymore

just a shame 2020 will be write off now, guess we can watch buddy (hopefully)

Happy with that.
Papley was the boss this year and set the standard for the younger guys to aspire to.

Goal for 2020 - find his gf a life in Sydney.

Im disgusted that:
- We didn't give Essendon half our team for an injury prone forward that's barely played the last two years.
- We didn't trade Papley for sweet **** all by giving 25 back after receiving 9.
- We didn't target the high quality midfielders that weren't ever actually available to be traded.
- We didn't just turn our back on a player who wanted to come to our club, just in case a deal didn't get done.

Why don’t we just wait the 20 minutes before we all throw the toys out of the cot.

Ok. Now we start throwing.

Just kidding. Let’s be clear, I wanted Joe...... but I am kinda glad that we had a price and stuck to it. Harley and do said that they would do what was best for the club and I think they have. Keeping Papley against his desire and not caving in to Dodo is pretty good evidence that you put the club above individuals.

Suppose we'll have a go next year at a Cameron or Daniher via RFA if they're still available. Hopefully in Papley's case it turns out to be an ROK situation.

Use draft picks to stock up on some midfield talent and provide us with some depth to support Heeney and Parker
