Harley just interviewed on Sports Radio. He said on the last day Dodo made it clear that 5 and 9 would not get the deal done. Dodo on soon.
At no stage was pick 5 offered. This has been said by both Dodoro and the Sydney list manager. Your final offer was 9 + 2020 1st. If we rejected 5 + 9 from the outset, and Sydney's final offer was worse than that, then what were Sydney doing for the last week?

The classic "it's Dodoro's fault". Timeless.

That is why we didnt trade Papley cause 5,9 wasnt enough(lol).
No. You didn't trade your star forward Papley because you wanted a good player in return (Daniher) to fill the hole. The exact same position that Essendon stood firm on with Joe. Pick 9 for Papley in a straight swap was more than fair enough.

There's optimism lol

One high first is plenty with a second. Two first were offered and that's overs...to ask for one of our absolute untouchables as well as a high pick...

Meh I'm not fussed about missing him, we'd have to pay through the nose for a bloke that hasn't even been on the field.

And if they were on the table, would picks 5 and 9 be more than fair enough for Daniher?

Purely in terms of value, yes. But if we traded Daniher without trying to fill the hole we'd be throwing our chances down the shitter for 2020 and probably beyond, so I can understand why we wanted an established player in return.

You do know he has 4 years to go not just 1, small difference there. Plus from everything that is being said, Carlton wanted a pick back, that's not happening.

Sydney are completely at fault for this one.

Swans never dealt in good faith for the Daniher trade, and as a result kept Carlton waiting all the wait up until 15min left to the end before making it known the deal had completely broken down.

Sydney chased daniher behind the backs of Essendon, get him to publicly shock nominate their club 2 weeks ago, and then offer up a deal that never had any chance of succeeding while keeping Carlton waiting all the way to the end of trade period.

If Swans are going to secretly convince a high profile player in the Essendon team to come to them, they better be willing to pony up at minimum their pick 5 in the offer which by all reports was never on the table.

Dodoro did nothing wrong, he made it known early and clear that the offer had to be enticing enough to let Daniher go and he sat back and let Sydney use the entire trade period to come to terms with the reality.

Swans acted dishonestly, they went with the strategy of trying to force dodoro to cave in on an unreasonable offer using the fact they got Daniher to publicly request a trade.

And even worse, because they took this strategy, they stuffed Carlton by making us wait all the way to the end with our pick 9 being held hostage until we knew for sure we couldnt get Papley, this ruining any chance to find a replacement trade with no time left.

Swans played dirty and held Carlton hostage alongside

Cool story Hansel

Assuming the reports that SOS wanted Papley + Pick 25 to ontrade for Martin, he effectively wanted Papley + Martin for Pick 9 which is totally reasonable and in no way led to the muted trade falling through

So how did you plan on getting pick 9 then? If you couldn't even get the Papley deal over the line then it sounds like these trades were never going to get done.

They weren’t happening a long way out. Just wish both sides said it a week ago. We weren’t trading out required A graders

I personally would have jumped at 5 and 9.

It was never going to be offered. The fact that Harley offered a worse deal in 9 (that he did not have) and a future first shows it was never being offered.

Personally I would have taken 9 and a future first as well as i think Daniher might be cooked but I am not upset about the deal falling through. The reward if Daniher gets fit and he recommits is well worth it.

Is it true that 7NEWS have a story that includes that Swans offered up Papley to Essendon on the final day of trade?

You misunderstand - Dodoro asked for pick 5 + pick 9 + something else; the Swans in response were not willing to part with pick 5. The Bombers started negotiations with the position that any combination of two 1st round picks that the Swans had available (or likely to have available in the case of pick 9) was not enough.

We did nothing of the sort. Sydney tried to take our most important player away from us while contracted and wouldn't even offer up pick 5 to try and get it done. We were more than entitled to hold out for a fairytale deal and Sydney never got close to it. It sucks that Papley got caught up in all of this and I'm sure he's pi**ed at Sydney.
They offered 9 + future 1st + future 2nd which is more then 5+9.

I think Carlton lose more. He's a genuine A-grader who wanted to be at the Blues, which is rare in recent years- and Silvagni couldn't get the deal done. Blues fans must be filthy.

Filthy we didn't get him, for sure. From all reports SOS and co did all they could - Swans tied it to Daniher which obviously didn't happen. It was not that the offer was not good enough or appropriate.

So it's not quite a massive fail, but nor is it a flying pass. It's disappointing. Papley would have been just fantastic at Carlton.
