So then persue targets that have a far higher % of being obtainable.

Nope, but we don't blow smoke up their arse for doing a fantastic job during the trade period.

We had a plan A, seem devoid of a plan B or C.
I think the issue here is that you’re limiting plans B and C to the trade period. You do know that there are still numerous methods of bringing in players yes?

On the other (slightly bigger) hand - we saw several other clubs just pay a bit overs (or a lot) for their men. In a day, week, month - nobody will care what they paid.

Don't agree with this at all. It effects your whole list over the coming years.

The scum overpaid for Shiel last year, and now, not only is their list is unbalanced, but they've missed 3 years of high draft picks.

FMD - why didn't we trade pick 9 for Dustin Martin? (same answer as to why we didn't trade pick 9 to the swans for Papley)

In fairness, I haven’t read anywhere that we offered 9 on its own for Paps. Everything was with a second coming back. It’s entirely possible that SOS out a price and didn’t go above it.

I would be disappointed if we didn’t offer 9 on its own.

a person inside the club has told me that Gold Coast are unlikely to pick up Martin in draft. They just wanted to send a message that they are going to be a hard negotiating team in the future. Not sure if Melbourne are interested in picking him up.

Melbourne certainly has the need for him, whether they have the cap space to match is another question.

I do not agree that we should be offering a $1M for 1 year deal. What happens if three months down the track he has a falling out with Teague/Cripps etc amd refuses to re-sign or extend.

Which big free agents should we be going after next year. Just to name a few of the top of my head. Whitfield, Zac Williams, grundy

Whitfield will be mentioned a lot until he re-signs. He is unobtainium.

Williams is more realistic, though the market would be hottttt. GWS keep who they wanna keep (fair play to them!) but lowering the eyes we might be able to pick off something good because they will be squeezed. In the same vein, definitely need to keeps eyes on Pies - cap gonna be tight.

He obviously really wants to play with us, we are not a good enough team yet to be passing up the opportunity on payers like him

So if we believe Swans & Blues -

Swans - we will trade you papley if the daniher trade goes through (deal agreed to), otherwise he is not up for trade

If we believe nuffies:

Blues response should have been - 'we will give you pick 9 and sign the papers without your consent'

Sydney said they offered 5 and 9 to Essendon. So it seems they would have been happy with what SOS offered if our meant they got Daniher. Offering 9 on its own wouldn’t have changed that.
