I am unquestionably like my favourite Insta hero who changes his mind every day about whether BCAAs are any good for weight training....

But a new view:

One good reason why we refused the GC trade is we may still try and trade 9 for another club’s future First. No one is giving us a future first for 15.

So yeah, if that happens, also brilliant work by the crew.

Me? Stick to, well, something else (was gonna say ‘what you’re good at Windows’ but not sure what that is).

I think the point is that they saw no worth in a second-round future pick because the AFL gave them a massive hand-out. They simply don't care if they get zilch for Martin. It's easy to make these bold decisions when you're drowning in top end picks.

Let's be clear, if the AFL doesn't hand over all those priority picks, Martin deal gets done.

That we've had to go through this rubbish is entirely on the AFL.

Funny thing is, there's still always value for having more picks especially over the next year or 2.
Theoretically they could have grabbed as many picks as they could, exchange them for points (?) and then just outbid clubs on their own academy or F/S guns.

Port Adelaide are pretty keen on Dylan Stephens and are looking to move up the order. We may downgrade our first for their first plus second rounder and get Martin with the second rounder. Melbourne are making us nervous if he goes to the PSD.

May be an option to split, and still get Martin in the PSD, but can't see Port doing the trade, unless they get #43 back

So, on the points, FWIW

12+29 = 1921
9 = 1469
9 + 43 = 1847

and the old #4 = 2034

In the context of this makey-uppy AFL administration, I'm not going to entertain the thought of Martin joining for 'free' until it happens.

Stand by for word from Gil and co that the PSD has been formally scrapped for this year (and, most likely, only this year), or otherwise to level charges of draft tampering or whatnot at how this is handled from here (in regard to snubbing Melbourne, for example). Nothing is beyond the AFL here - they have optics and narrative to manage.

If that happens I think we end up in court. Martin trade has not been facilitated, he's an out of contract player in the system that has a right to put a price on his head and get to a club of his choice, his current club had a better than market rate offer for a player of his quality considering valuations of similar players and they decided to play a game with his career....... yes that sounds like a restraint of trade for mine....this is not an 18 year old this is a 100 game footballer who has been poorly managed from day dot and his manager has come out today emphatically to say to GC no more games from here.

Probably a bit early for that - recruiters/scouts will have done their jobs, but the club's focus wouldn't have been on the early draft.

Time for Brodie and his guys to pull their considerable weight.

My preference if we can, is to trade it for a future 1st.

Essentially put things on hold for a year and be armed with 2 x 1st round picks in 2020 & our 2021 1st to offer in trades for mature guns.

Ultimately, next year is still a 'development' year where we hope to be pushing for a top 8 spot, in Teague's first year as coach. It's the years after that where we'll hopefully start to be expecting to be playing finals, and loading up on assets and potentially bringing in 2 guns end of 2020 would be massive.

If we get Jack Martin in the PSD, then the trade period is a win for Carlton if in the live trading, we swap Pick 9 for another team's 1st Round Pick in 2020.

Then in 2020, we use our two 1st Round Picks in 2020 and our future 1st Round 2021 Pick to trade for an absolute midfield A grade gun like Josh Kelly.

I wouldn't, unless we still held a stongish position this year

I presume that means we will be standing firm on our smallish piece of land this year.

stong. Noun. (plural stongs) (historical) An area of land equivalent to a quarter of an acre.

I still don't understand GC's mentality. They want to look tough and strong so they knock back our offer. But in the end we get him for free through the PSD.

To me, they just look stupid. All they do is lose the draft picks and they don't seem any tougher to me...

Their mentality was, "We refuse to get bent over the trade period". Hence the hard stance.

Not sure if it was worth losing 2020 picks that could be used for academy bids next year.

You’re on fire today FB. Ya make me laugh (said with Scottish accent for some reason).

I feed off the ridiculous.

And if the last 24hrs has been anything.... It's been ridiculous!

I am going to laugh my ass off when a GCS player walks themselves to the draft to avoid their destination club having to deal with GCS.

Probably score a better contract arriving for free as well!

Precedent has been established now. Don't trade with GCS whilst they have their AFL handout.

Yep, there's a quote somewhere from GC's list manager saying any trade for Martin had to improve their draft position, and our offer didn't.

Lol in what world does a future 2nd & 3rd draft pick not improve a clubs' draft position?? Oh that's right, one where the AFL has gifted GC a shitload of early picks for 2 years, plus much more.

In addition he said this:
Cameron was asked if there was any risk in not trading Martin.
“As I said, we have a really strong hand in the next two drafts, so you tell me the risk,” he said.

So yeah, they don't give a shit because they have no risk even though they lost him for nothing thanks to the AFL and they are abusing that fact.

They valued Martin higher than we did. So in their eyes, yes it look liked we were bending them over. We see what happens next year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

No it wasn't about that, it was about them having so many top picks our future 2nd & 3rd didn't mean much to them...the only way to get additional value was getting our pick 9 involved. But this situation is only because the AFL gave them so many concessions.
