20 being free at Richmond would be a good get potentially, as they are the premiership favourites in the year 2020?

Thanks. Surprised about Walker, was that expected?
Kind of. I don't think any Lions fans were going to be surprised either way. He's a decent player. Would be a great fit for the Suns who lack KPD depth. I think he's stuck behind Andrews, Adams and Gardiner as our defensive talls and we'll be expecting our young talls such as Jack Payne to step up from next year and become superior depth to what Walker offered.

GWS
Vacant: 7, 10, 11, 12, 26, 28, 42, 43, 45
To be allocated:

Adam Tomlinson’s #20 is also now vacant

Sheridan (11) Sproule (28) Stein (42) have been delisted - but the club the press release said that it was for list management reasons (Stein & Sproule have been rookies for as long as is allowed & Sheridan was injured for most of last year) and that we will redraft them in the rookie draft so those numbers will probably stay with their current players.

Also, you can add Sam Jacobs as a “to be allocated”

and #45 hasn’t been allocated since 2015 so don’t hold your breath on that one.

(*team has committed to redraft player)

How come teams are de listing players with a ‘promise’ to re draft but have lots of free spots on the list?
Its usually when a team it drafting the absolute minimum numbers
Is there a shift here?

They are promising to re-draft them onto the rookie list, rather than the senior list.

If another club is willing to give a player a senior list spot then they can step in and draft them but it never happens. The AFl should really just do away with the rookie list all together and give teams a full list of 45 players. Keep the international/non football player signings separate but listed players should just be listed players to avoid these weird scenarios.

There are also rules as to how long a player can stay on the rookie list (3 years iirc) which is what has happened with 2 of our guys. They’ve both spent 3 years on the rookie list so they have to be either delisted or elevated. So they’ve been delisted with the promise to re-rookie them. We want to keep them but the AFL requires some form of action at this point.

But I agree - now they’ve scrapped the rule that says a rookie can only play in the even of a long term injury, there’s little point keeping it as it is.
