surely this has to be the start of the build up to next years world cup in Australia.
it's the only silverware we haven't won, probably because we haven't taken it that serious and because of the constant change of personnel.
we've also had several changes in the captaincy in our 20/20 history.

the above squad seems to be ok on paper.

I dislike the lack of faith in Short

Agreed, can see why he's fallen out of the frame in the ODI side but I don't see how it can be justified for the T20 team given his performances both at home and abroad.

or because we're not that good at T20I.

I agree, but end of the day he's in the best XI and if he wants to be part of it then hard to say no to him.

Yes on the second point too.

Sri Lanka got done by the PMs XI so even that terrible side Australia has picked will probably clean sweep the series and they’ll suddenly think they’re good at T20 cricket
We actually looked good at T20 cricket when Warner captained us in that tri-series with England and NZ when we chased down 243 against NZ. We went back to losing the plot since then.

Should be good.

If you've got Foxtel, no one else will be able to watch it.

What a disgraceful deal that was by Cricket Australia, selling out the national game to Murdoch.

I seriously do not believe S Smith should be in the T20.......rather him just concentrate on test and ODI

Kane richardson is just crap
I disagree mainly because I want Australia to be taking T20 more seriously so I'm glad he's been picked. People might say 'it's just hit and giggle' but isn't that what they said when world series cricket started up in the 70s and the traditionalists called it a disgrace? T20 has a strong future in cricket whether people like it or not and I'd rather see Australia trying to win more World Cups than fall behind and try to play catchup like England & RSA do in 50 over World Cups.

Smith has never really been given an extended run in T20I for Australia (as a batsman) since 2013/14. He has an excellent IPL record and was always amongst the best at the Sixers when he began to emerge as a good bat. He's always been rested or managed due to the captaincy factor which is fair enough but he doesn't have that anymore. Would like to see Smith focus on playing all 3 forms while he isn't captain as he is just too talented not to, give him time and his record will improve immensely. Kohli, Williamson and Root all play plenty of T20I, why not Smith?

The biggest problem I see is they pick all these T20 specialists for local games, sometimes they pick 1-2 for an overseas game but they rarely get much opportunity and then when then the World T20s roll around, they just pick the test squad! Financially its probably not viable having a mostly separate T20I squad when they usually only play 1-2 games at the beginning of a tour so its more sensible to play the ODI players, but they will never find the best T20 players if they cant find a formula and stick to it.

They are probably not helped by the Big Bash being a poor competition and most of the domestic players who do well there are either veterans or your Lynn, Short etc who get exposed at international level.

any word on ticket sales? not really feeling any level of interest in these matches. (being exclusive to Kayo/Fox Cricket doesn't really help with the promotion of the series)

Lots of Sri Lankan friends of mine are excited for the MCG game but aside from that I haven’t seen much interest at all. Probably a 30k crowd for that one.

They’ll be lucky to get 10k tomorrow at AO. Ticket prices are a bit steep and the SL population in SA isn’t enormous.

That's why CA's decision to put all the limited overs internationals behind a paywall is so short sighted and stupid, sure they got more money from their tv rights deal but they will probably lose more money from the loss of interest in the game with lower crowd numbers and less advertising/sponsorship dollars.

Yeah but Sri Lanka have toured early in the past when it was all on Channel 9 and received similar low crowds (of which 90% are Sri Lankan). I think timing is more the issue. People are used to Test Cricket starting the season and in November.
