Now you're getting me nostalgic. I looked up the Cricinfo / wiki pages. What a great collection of Aussie cricketers, plus Greg Rowell and Shane George. The Aussie A batting lineup was class but the bowling ran out of depth once Moody, Reiffel and Hughes were plucked out of there to be drinks waiters or whatever shenanigans took place.

Haven't been watching much Premier League unfortunately, not even the one game a week now that SBS have lost that. Couldn't speak about how anyone is going other than what I read, although I'd like to watch a few Chelsea games if I could, but can't be bothered forking out for something I don't have time for.

Have Kayo, been watching Bundesliga, Serie A and Primera Liga on occasion. Enjoyable enough.

I was a massive critic of Optus getting the rights at first but now I am converted.

I love watching the 20-25 mini game replays of the game I want to watch.

But yeah if you don't have optus I could see why your interest would dim

Yeah, I think they have those on Kayo too but I do enjoy sitting back and watching 90 minutes with all the bells and warts included. Think I've spent most of my time watching Kayo on the phone at the Chinese restaurant waiting for my meal.

What's Optus cost per month, out of interest? I don't imagine its dear, but I'm on Wifi rather than NBN. Watching live sports rather than replays can suck at times, so I prefer to watch the replays (which is better for O/S sport anyway).

$10 a month so super cheap.

I tend to watch the whole Liverpool games but the mini games for non-Liverpool games

Also they have the champions league so that is good on the train on the way to work in the mornings

Bevan was a bizarre favourite of mine. ACT boy (I was born in Canberra) plus a lovely, classical stroke player.

What was odd about him is that his batting style looked like a test player, but he didn’t perform in Test matches. He was a bit of a one-day specialist, except that he didn’t slog away like the usual one day guys. Lovely straight drive. Still my favourite shot in cricket.

Supposedly a bit weak against short bowling, but can't be the root cause when a guy averages 55+ in first class cricket. Thought he'd finally nailed down a place in the side when he got a few scores and poles against the Windies. He also started brilliantly against the Paki's, if I recall.

Pity for him is that if he was born 10 years later he'd be a multi-millionaire courtesy of the IPL.

This is very true. Born in the wrong time. I liked his batting lots. Had some class.

Vaguely interesting story that I remember my Mum telling me - she worked at an ACT public college (in ACT back then that was years 11 and 12) with Bevan’s dad. He was called Hugh I think. Anyway the poor bloke came close to a major incident. He signed himself up as a “supervisor” to some type of overseas trip for these kids from the school who go to Europe, cheap rates as a group, for educational purposes. The kids in question are 16 to 17 so not babies. When it comes to the end of the trip, a couple of the girls somehow convince him that their travel plans have changed, with the permission of their parents, because they are going to stay on a bit longer with their cousins.

Everyone disembarks in Canberra - Mum and Dad waiting for their girls - no show. The cousins part was all s**t, bevan senior never checked the story. It all went a bit ugly and took a bit of work for federal police and international police to flush out the girls shacked up with random Greek waiters or whatever. No harm done - they came back safely (four weeks later) but the school and H Bevan had a miserable time waiting to see if the drama reached four corners or similar. I think the guy had to live with a disciplinary demotion from head of department for a bit also.

Loved Bevan. He was unlucky in test cricket in that he came on the scene in an era where the Waughs had 4 and 5 locked down and there was great batting depth around Australia.

He was extremely effective in 50 over cricket in that he could pace his innings so well. He wasn’t a power hitter but could place and time the ball well enough to get the boundary fielder to run that little bit further and with his long stride would almost always get the extra run. He could take 10+ off an over with a spread field by doing it in 2s and 3s.

His bowling was pretty handy too. Weird frog in a blender action that got heaps of overspin to the point where bowled virtually medium pace googlys - the kind of delivery that would smack you in the midriff off a good length if you tried playing forward to it. Apparently he was one of those savants that better the less he practiced his bowling.

Good fielder also.

Seems there was a T20 match on day. Sri Lankans only lost by 130 odd. Crying shame to miss such an enthralling contest.

In a world of saturation cricket coverage; no context T20 internationals are probably the worst form of cricket.

These days I reckon the 50 over games are more pointless. Kids and fly-by fans will turn up to a T20, but the one-day games are now also irrelevant and suffer from a relative lack of excitement. In any case, quite a large gives one factor over cricket at the moment. I flicked over to the WBBL briefly last weekend and saw the Sydney Sixers playing at North Sydney Oval, and there looked to be maybe a couple of hundred people there. Its not a big ground and its a great venue to watch games at, so it sure looks like the general public aren't just going to roll up to all these cricket games just because the players wear coloured clothes and music is playing.
 
Anyone been watching the Rugby World Cup? The sport has really grown on me this tournament. Not going to be able to support either England or South Africa in the final.
 
Blazers and Vikings fan! Not expecting to win anything, but both teams will be super competitive which should be fun to watch!
