Analysis 2020 Fixture - Who will we play

I assume the club is very happy with the Tasmania arrangement, and given we almost always win down there, it's like banking 3-4 wins that we may not have got with the same games at the MCG.

We're in an extremely good financial position, so we're not exactly dying for the gate sales...

Understand the angst from Melbourne-based supporters, but if the clubs happy, and we're banking wins... isn't it a great outcome for Hawthorn? (+10k Tassie members).

Melbourne sell a game to Darwin and still get 10 MCG home games - Us, Richmond and Collingwood are all forced to host a Marvel home game against our wishes
1 + 10 = 11......thats the annual home game entitlement. Ain't getting any extras. They've played home games at Marvel in the past

Home games at Marvel are on rotation. Its just been our turn recently.

If its good enough for Richmond and Collingwood, then its good enough for us.

Once we move out of Tassie, doesn't everyone realise that we will see more of it? We ain't going to get 11 home games at the MCG

It won't be, though. It will be 7 MCG, 4 Crocklands.

Not surprised the "let's get out of Tassie" mob don't realise this.

Tassie fans have the option of a ferry from Flinders st to Docklands if they are missing the wet part of the journey. cant find an air route though.
Srsly though, show us the money - don't the AFL own docklands now? (and rented it out during the finals series btw)

Need to restablish docklands dominance. not long ago only essendon had a better record there

Why can’t it be something like 9 MCG and 2 at Marvel? Richmond and Collingwood play at least 9 home games at the MCG.

Steve Hocking has a strategy for ending Geelong’s laughable run of post-bye losses - have them play Hawthorn, a club they never have difficulty getting worked up to play, after the Cats have the bye despite Hawthorn NOT having a bye the previous week. (how’s this fair?)

It’ll be hilarious if it backfires because I get the feeling this is a Hail Mary after trying everything else. Also it’s a timely reminder this is a Mickey Mouse league punctuated by vested interests that makes up the rules as they along.

Is that necessarily a bad thing though?

Our Docklands average crowd is 36,500 and in recent years (against West Coast x 2, Port, Gold Coast and the Dogs) our average home game attendance is 34,000

And with the exception of Carlton next year, we haven’t been playing high drawing teams at the venue

Perhaps it’s time to bring the games home

Because the AFL want us to be a two stadium club (like Essendon and Carlton)

That’s why year after year we are getting to a stage where we are almost playing an equal number of games at both venues...

In 2010 and 2012 we played 12 of 14 games at the MCG (in Victoria), we now play 8 of 13 games

Much like North now playing 5 games in Tasmania there is a sense of inevitability about 2022 onward

So, Tassie games are West Coast (Anzac Day, nice), Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and Adelaide. So, which one of West Coast, Port and Adelaide have been relocated to Victoria? Another less than inspiring Tassie fixture.

At least North Melbourne's Hobart fixture isn't any better with Freo, Lions, Gold Coast and Melbourne.

Nice to have a few games to try and get to at the G, Brisbane, Pies, Cats and Giants I will target and try to get over for.

If and when Hawthorn eventually leave Tassie we must make sure that we will have an agreement with the AFL to play at least 10 Home games at the MCG, otherwise we will get shafted to the Docklands

This is precisely what Kennett and Reeves are negotiating with the AFL as part of the Tassie exit discussions
