From the article ranking the fixtures on the AFL website:

Cons: Three trips to Sydney to face the Giants (twice) and the Swans will be a stiff test, as will rounds 20 and 21 against Richmond (MCG) and Geelong (GMHBA), but the Dogs must be rapt with the draw.

3 trips to Sydney in a single H&A season! That must be a record. Not to mention our Giants away game is in Canberra. :drunk:

Cold, hard facts

  • Only one of those teams (the Giants) played finals in 2019
  • Four of our first five games are at Marvel Stadium
  • Five of our first six games are on free-to-air TV
  • Four of our five interstate games are on free-to-air TV
  • Our last seven games are in Victoria
  • We have 12 night games in 2020, the most we’ve had since 2017
  • We’re back on Good Friday, against North Melbourne in Round 4
  • We’re playing on Anzac Day, against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on the Saturday night
  • For the first time since 2010, we have a Round 1 home game against a Victorian team
  • Only one Perth home-and-away trip for the first time since 2016
  • Our first game at the SCG since 2017
  • No Queensland game for the second time in three years
  • Our bye is in Round 14, between home games against the GWS Giants and Essendon
*Note – the Round 23 fixture is a floating one, with date, time and broadcaster to be confirmed late in the season

Noticed a little quirk with our fixture.

Our interstate games are all exactly 3 games apart. 3, 6, 9, 12, and 16 (we have a bye in round 14)

Bet the author is wondering why a WA team like the Western Bulldogs play so many away games in Victoria, and only 1 home game in Perth.

Great draw for following local WRFL senior and junior footy during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, and then the big club in Prime Time.

Very happy with the drawer, though I think Carlton will be a bit better than a 'bottom' team next year.
Round 2 is big for us. The expect Carlton to be much improved. No one would be surprised if we lose to the Pies in round 1 but going 0-2 and giving Carlton encouragement for the rest of the season would be pretty disastrous.

Carlton coming off a likely loss against Richmond in Rd 1 as well.
