I would assume that Gardner is not being kept as pure 28y.o. journeyman depth, but being kept as something between that and raw draftee potential.

I have seen enough in Roarke to think he deserves another year, especially with the injuries that have stalled his career thus far. Not sure that forward is his best role, but we are stacked with running backs so it will be interesting to see what his role is next year.

Gardner is on the list coz we would be paying him a packet of chips and a pie.

Sorry mate he isn’t raw or has potential. He is a cheap gap filler that is now probably 6-7 player depth.

And as I’ve said I really hope the bloke smashes it and proves me wrong but he doesn’t move well, read the ball well, spread well, man mark well, zone well, drop into space well. And that’s in both the AFL and VFL

Real harsh on Gardner in here. I don’t think he will make it but give him a full season as the shut down defender and (lining up against Bruce/Naughton) he may make massive improvement.

All the other tall positions except for the lock down defender are all set in stone. Maybe give him a crack at that role.

I see question marks on the other 3 who might be used that way (Trengrove, Cordy, Young).

The discussion on here regarding Gardner is tiresome, disrespectful and repetitive. Please move on from the endless criticism and endless defence of Gardner and add some value to the conversation please peeps.

And be respectful to each other...I've deleted one post on here in the past few minutes and don't want to start handing out infractions.

Ok boss but its Gardner!

Liking the general balance and depth of our list. I still think we’re overstocked in inside mids but there’s no chance we get as sweet an injury run as last year meaning Wallis, Libba, McLean and even West who all seem fringe 22 at the moment will get games.

What does everyone think we need to prioritise regarding lists needs into the future: I’ll start

1. KPD
2. Winger / Outside mid
3. Small Forward

Think we lack a genuine small forward specialist.

Other than that I think we have pieces that can slot into all other areas.

I feel like a genuine small (not just Lloyd and resting mid) is close to our biggest need. Best available with Pick 13 will probably address one of the areas you mentioned, and Keath helps in the KPD department but doesn't completely address it.

For wings, at least we have Vandermeer developing who may have scope to play on a wing, and Cavarra could become a small forward. But neither have played a single game, so I'd still like to address these areas through the draft in some way.

My order would be

1. KPD
2. Small forward
3. Winger

Not a major point of order, but in response to those posters who made the point that Gardner would benefit from a full AFL standard pre-season, Gardner was on Geelong's main list for 3 seasons so would have participated in 3 solid AFL pre-seasons there. He's no newbie but let's hope there is some Hamling-like development in him.

I'd like to give him benefit of the doubt, given that talls take longer to develop and he would've been behind some pretty decent players for the years he was at Geelong. I don't like his odds, but I still feel he deserves a shot next year to prove himself. * the clubs that picked up players for 6 months then dumped them without giving them an actual go

R.smith should have been delisted last year or the year before, then we could of given another rookie a chance and seen what they have. If they didn't work out we would be in the same position now. But at least we could of had a look at someone else. And have a chance getting someone like Marlon Pickett.

Not having r.smith last year wouldnt have made any difference at all.

This is our list of guys coming out of contract. How many get the chop at the end of next year? I reckon at least 7 from that list will either retire of get the chop next year. Thankfully, not many in that list that are hugely important. Crozier and Smith the main priorities to keep, also Wood.

Buku Khamis
Easton Wood
Jackson Trengove
Josh Schache
Billy Gowers
Lin Jong
Brad Lynch
Hayden Crozier
Sam Lloyd
Taylor Duryea
Bailey Smith
Laitham Vandermeer
Fergus Greene
Callum Porter
Matt Suckling
Ben Cavarra
Will Hayes
Tory Dickson
Jordon Sweet (R)
Lachlan Young (R)
Ryan Gardner (R)
Roarke Smith (R)

Assuming no significant improvement, the gone list probably includes:

Gowers, Jong, Lynch, Greene, Porter, Suckling, Dickson, Gardner, Smith.

The guys who get an extra year thanks to being inexperienced:
Vandermeer, Sweet, Khamis, Cavarra, Hayes

The rest get extended on their own merit. That gone list is 9 people though, I doubt we see that many changes at once. Guys like Gowers and Greene will probably earn themselves an extension, plus maybe Jong depending how this year goes with injuries

Gowers, Porter, Dickson are definites to finish up imo. Reckon Jong and Lynch should be advised to look for alternative offers.
Gardner and Smith cut from rookie list.
Suckling, Wood and Trengove have minimal years left. Suckling may even get the tap on the shoulder to consider his future.

Young Hirst played 12 NEAFL games for 9 Goals, not sure he deserved a go. Sometimes it's best to play the
long game, but temptation is a cruel mistress.
That is a bit like Dustin Fletcher's son who was father son eligible last year, but chose to play another year to
physically develop because he did not feel ready. Sometimes all that glitters is not gold, but resisting the
temptation is the ultimate self assessment.

Hard to predict but if.injuries are good next season some. good.players may have their opportunities limited and may seek a trade while contracted. McLean, Wallis and Williams spring to mind.

I’ve still got hopes for Greene. Agree with the rest.

I reckon Greene will get more time. big wraps and in an area of need.

Sooooooo basically the list I’ve been saying, and getting abused for, for two years??
The same list that the majority have not added much to the on field performances in the same two years?
The same list anyone can work out have to be moved on next year yet we dug our heels in this year and moved minimal players, so next year we have no choice but to have a big turn over instead of two medium turn overs.

That list???😂😂😂😂

Tipping the ones that love to troll back months to find errors will be pretty silent on this one
