Brothers of Destruction
The obvious ones are guys like Matthew Richardson, Matthew Pavlich, Danny Frawley, Brendan Fevola, Shane Crawford (until his last season), Paul Roos, Patrick Cripps, but they aren’t underrated, most people Universally accept they’re superstars and many really undervalue the other guys in the team.

Personally I felt Paul Broderick and Joel Bowden were phenomenal players for Richmond.

Broderick was tough as nails, most penetrating handball in our team, always had time and space.

Joel Bowden is arguably the smartest footballer to ever play the game, he knew the rules inside out and exploited them on numerous occasions, this guy single handedly won us games of football. Besides his smarts, he was a natural goal kicker, who we played as an undersized full back 🤦‍♂️

He kicked goals from 60 off one step, sold candy to robert harvey so ruthlessly, that Harvey’s kids still had leftovers for Halloween last year.
But yeah, they’re players for us that will never get a mention, but out and our superstars.
Who else pops to mind?

Have always admired the way Kade Simpson has played, for his light frame he is highly courageous....Just has experienced very little success unfortunately for him.
Don’t think he’s underated. He’s been an excellent player for a long time. Unfortunately for him he’s been loyal to a club with no success over his time there. To play over 300 games is a magnificent achievement and I know Carlton fans acknowledge him as a champion of their club.

David Neitz was a gun. Very rarely spoken about
Brad Green too.

Stef Martin has probably been the #3 ruckman in the comp for nearly a decade (behind Cox and Sandi, then Gawn & Grundy of late) whilst playing for 2/3 of the worst clubs in that time.

I was always a big fan of David Hille too.

I’ll add Matthew Knights from Richmond.
Played in a total of six finals games and he won us the semi final against Essendon single handedly.
Played rippers in 3 more of those finals, but the Essendon game was 👌
Always rated Wayne Cambell higher but both very good footballers

Michael Johnson (FRE) - Regularly took key forwards to the cleaners. Made one AA team, must have been a close miss in 3-4 others. Played almost 250 games. If not for his off-field issues, would be just a faceless Freo player to many.

Rohan Smith (WBD) - played 300 games, super consistent. Made a couple of AA teams. Played in some terrible teams, but also the prelim final years. Very neat HBF, great skills, useful in the midfield. Shaded by the excellence of West and Brad Johnson. Deserves more recognition.

Michael Jamieson (CARL) - Career somewhat interrupted by injuries and occasionally got taken to the cleaners. In between though, was a rock for us down back. Wasn't a champion, but was in the top 3-5 full-backs in the league for much of his career. He gets ignored because Carlton was so bad, but his best support over the years were Bret Thornton and occasionally Jarrad Waite. If not for him Carlton would have been so much worse (yes, it's possible).

Wayne Campbell (RICH) - Played almost 300 games. Won 4 x B&F, a couple AA. A ball magnet for many years, kicked plenty of goals, provided some great output through some terrible tiger teams. Got lost in the era of Buckley, Voss, Hird etc. Obviously not as good as them, but one of those very very good players that gets lost because they weren't in that very top echelon.

The Kade Simpson thread. At least once a year someone starts a thread like this

The Kade Simpson Thread?

Stewy Maxfield from the Swans is what the thread is aimed at, Simpson still plays.

289 games, over 150 goals, Swans Captain from 2003-2005,

Relinquished the captaincy halfway through the 2005 year, dealing with mental health issues and missed the 2005 Premiership, never to be seen or heard from again.

Daryl Creswell - Sydney, All Australian and Best and Fairest winner played 244 games and made the Sydney Team of the Century,

sadly, no one remembers he was really even a footballer anymore, he’s now known as a fraudster and gambling addict
