JSOS is a lean mean muscle machine.

Fish has put some muscle on. SPS probably never will. LOB doesn't look to have built up much more.

Weiters and Setters are ripped. Stocker is a tank.

Really worried about Jones for next year. Going to take a huge effort to keep thrusting those massive pythons up into the air for spoils.

SPS has been training since middle of September! Dare I say it, he's flying! motor motor motor...

On SEN this morning Teague said that it is open training on Friday. Looking forward to the reports from the track watchers.
Brilliant. I've got the day off friday for a golf comp in the afternoon.

Do you know what time training was? I'll try pop in.

You know, when I was in the States, I didn't see anything supersized. Was most disappointed.

You must not have gone out to eat. I've never finished a meal there other than at the Honolulu Cheesecake Factory. We ordered an entree each and actually finished it but had to return the next day to have a cheesecake.

2020 Blues Pre-Season Player Preview Series

2. Dow.PNG

Player Name: P. Dow

Guernsey #: 2

Nickname/s: Dowy, Paddy Wow

2019 Senior Games: 19

Key Stats: Disposals: 271 (14.3) Marks: 40 (2.1) Contested possessions: 127 (6.7) Tackles: 50 (2.6) Clearances: 49 (2.6) Metres gained: 4136 (217.7)

Height: 187

Weight: 83

Injury concerns: Nil

Primary Role: Midfield/Half-Forward

Best 22 Status: Just inside the 22

Strengths: Burst speed, clearances, commitment, great kid.

Weaknesses: Consistency, endurance, kicking, questionable hair game.

What they said: “We encourage all of our young players to play to their strengths. He was able to win the ball in close and use some of his power out of congestion and stoppage,” VFL Coach Josh Fraser.

The 411: Dow pushed his games tally to 39 in 2019, with the young midfielder expected to eclipse 50 games in the middle of 2020. The former #3 pick was forced to ply his trade in the VFL then across half-forward at times in his second year, all part of his footy education as the club rates him highly. Coming into his all-important third year, the responsibility rests on Paddy’s shoulders as to how he responds. Big pre-season coming up.

Bigfooty best case: As fans, I’m sure most of us would love to see Dowy become a staple at stoppages alongside Captain Cripps to play 22 games in 2020. To do that though, he’d do well to should attach himself to Diesel’s hip this pre-season in a bid to improve his midfield craft and kicking efficiency. A few extra sessions with Ed Curnow wouldn’t go astray as well. If he can work hard over the next 4 months and hit Round 1 at full ‘Paddy Wow’ pace, there’s no reason why he can’t push over 20 touches a game and become one of our top rotation midfielders in the senior team.

Next up: Marc Murphy

That's why we need to get Stephens if still available at pick 9.We have Setters, Jsos, kennedy and Crippa all feeding the ball out to the runners.
I'm not sure Kennedy will necessarily get another contract. Let's not leave Stocker out of the discussion either. Still happy for us to get another balanced mid with some explosiveness.

Other than TDK, what are your thoughts on the body shapes you’re seeing in the training pics Jimmae? Are most of the players heading in the right direction?
Everyone looks ok, though O'Brien and Dow need to stay away from the leg weights for a while and focus on running for leg conditioning. Weitering could probably use similar advice too.

Stocker looks like he rolls his ankles a lot in how he plants his feet when running, as does Gibbons. I reckon that wastes a fair bit of their power off the mark, and they'd be well served by sitting down with the pyhsios and working on conditioning up the supporting muscles around their ankles/heels and how they plant their feet then push through, not dissimilar from what Docherty was doing the other day in those instagram clips.

If you're regularly dealing with inflammation in that area, where it's quite compact and under a lot of mechanical and load-bearing stress, it's easy to wind up restricting blood flow in areas, and get in a pattern of not noticing how flat-flooted you can become. Further refinement of diet as well as targeted exercise are often forgotten until a player presents with an issue or injury.

Kennedy's another who struggles with this alongside Owies and Pittonet by the looks of it, meanwhile you can see the way Cripps, Fisher and JSOS have made strides (pardon the pun), likely through specialist coaching.

Away from that, the brief glimpses of Dow suggest he's added some strength through his arms, shoulder and upper back, which are great signs for his progress as a contested mid. Development of the supporting muscles in his back is essential, and should also assist him with his running issues by getting more value out of each stride (i.e. make him more economical when not at full pace).
