Can add Williamson and Gibbons if you're naming late round nothing picks who can play.

The we can't pick players late in the draft line is so overplayed.

Also now were coming to a point where we have built leadership and culture we can take more risks and put lines through fewer players, we're also focusing on types who are typically the good ones late in the draft. Lesser need for salary dumps who can only half play. It'll be fine.

The more I think about it the more I don't understand why we'd move on SOS?

  1. Weitering, McKay, Curnow and JSOS in the one draft
  2. Trading for multiple picks in the first round allowing us to get McKay and Curnow together
  3. Giving up f all for Marchbank
  4. Giving up f all for Setterfield
  5. Getting 2x first rounders for Gibbs
  6. Getting pick 21 for Tom Bell
  7. Maxing out Lachie Henderson
  8. Gaining Plowman + 4 other serviceable players for Troy ****ing Menzel
  9. Passing on Shane MacAdam to pick up McGovern and getting a mature age Gibbons anyway who looks better.

The list goes on.. He's done way more good than bad. Strange times.

Agreed..it is not his shining achievement; it is certainly not a catastrophe and rolling of a list of names no longer at the club does not highlight the fact that it was a requirement to build a list in transition.

I literally do not understand.
He turned our list over in 4 years when at the time we did not have much value in terms of tradeable assets - Yarran, Menzel, Hendo, Gibbs, Touhy, Bell
To use those assets through smart trading and the draft to bring in Weitering, Mckay, Curnow, Marchbank, Setterfield, Dow, Obrien, Walsh, Stocker, Plowman
It is crazy that his job was up for debate.

Unless we get someone like a Kinnear Beatson (who i think to myself SOS is just as good if not better) then im gonna be serious pi***ed off
If we get some no name, god help me

Seriously, the amount of supporters on here pumping up SILVAGNI'S tyres. Liddle has done the right thing, as the last few drafts SOS has handled, have been nothing short of shambolic. His only good draft year was year one, since then nothing to jump up and down over!
It's amazing how people who know nothing about footy, become trolls just to be relevant.

Good work SOS.
Stocker signed up for 3 more years.
Love it.

Carlton General Manager of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said the Club was excited to extend Stocker’s deal.

“We rate Liam really highly and this year his effort and intensity to the program saw him fit into our system and earn his debut early in the season,” Silvagni said.
“Those five games of AFL will give Liam huge motivation to work hard over the summer to give himself every chance for greater opportunity at the elite level in 2020.
“We look forward to seeing his development unfold and we know our members and supporters will enjoy watching Liam emerge over the next three years.”

Dont want SOS to gl ANYWHERE!. Hopefully works itself out. Our CEO shouldnt be speaking to players from other clubs or discussing players from other clubs with the media.
Hopefully we grab Martin for nothing and the pressure eases. I see we have already been linked to Sydneys list manager kinnear though which would be a good switch if we did make one

If Liddle is interfering with list management he himself thinks he’s bigger than the club.

He’s interfering with things outside his skillset

Which is just speculation mind you, I assume you have the same thoughts on Teague regarding Betts, or is that different because everyone likes Eddie?

SOS has done well with our draft picks.

However, his trades outside of the draft picks have been really bad. He has found no gems hidden in the rough. Every non-draft pick player traded in has failed I believe.

What is a non-draft pick player? Any players traded for?

Plowman, Newman, Marchbank, Setterfield, McGovern?

Stocker - Setterfield - Newman just for starters.

It's going to be hard for things simply to work themselves out though.

Silvagni has a right to feel betrayed when we went to sound out Beatson mid-season. He's not silly.
Silvagni was happy to walk if he wasn't wanted as is his right to ask.

If things did smooth over to some degree when the team actually started winning games under Teague, the wounds would have re-surfaced, should have the executive been courting players and the coach speaking to others, without the express approval of the List Manager.

So messy and we know that Silvagnis isn't the easiest person to get along with and if that's what we're wanting from him.....we're not going to get it.

Whatever happens, happens but why does it have to happen with acid in mouth again?
This is a cultural thing where if everyone is allowed to poke their noses into others' roles, issues will come about.
When was the last time someone left our club without acrimony prevailing? It wasn't Bolton, nor Trigg, nor Hughes, nor Swann, nor Ratten, nor Malthouse etc.

Worst part about SOS leaving, if it eventuates, will be all the dummy spitting on this board.

Seriously. Pull yourselves together.

The work he's done isn't work that needs to keep happening. We don't need someone to pull 5-for-1 trades out their arse to turn over 90% of the list in a four year period now. We need someone to maintain strong relationships with players, managers, recruiters, opposition list managers, and to coordinate the organic growth of a young list. We need to plug a few specific gaps, and we need to make sure we only lose players we can afford to lose from here on out.

If SOS believes that the work he's best suited to is now behind us, and the work needing to be done moving forward is best handled by someone with a different skill set, that's a good thing. If SOS believes the club is now on track for success and he wants to be able to get a little bit of distance from it so he can watch his boys enjoy that success, that's a good thing. If the executive board have implemented checks and balances to ensure best practice, and SOS is chafing so much at being accountable that he feels the need to leave, that's still a good thing. Change is good - it's evolution, improvement, development.

Baffles me that people will say SOS leaving is a return to the "bad old days", when it's quite literally the opposite - not trusting in a name, a member of the boys club, just because, but recognising when they've done their job and someone else now needs to do theirs.

Amen. Thank god someone in here has some sense. Talk about jumping the gun.

We have had a lot of Assets though. Those six players you mentioned plus picks ~~1,1,3,half of 4,5,19,19,21,22,23. Those are the picks that have been given to us and already used. He has only been in charge 5 years but with that hand (plus huge salary cap room) you wouldn’t really expect anything less. As an earlier poster mentioned his first year was absolutely brilliant even ignoring that Weitering was gifted to us. The rest have all been successful Imo but nothing brilliant. I think we have been very consistent at improving our talent which is all you have to be but I guess if we stop getting these top 5 and late teen/early twenty picks that we have been every year then the job becomes much harder.
I rate the job SOS has done and that’s why I want to see him prove himself at our club because I think the actual hard work is still ahead of us. In saying that so far I think he has been successful for us because of two decisions and that’s picking McKay and Curnow. The rest imo is just meh. Maybe more importantly he hasn’t made many big mistakes and that’s huge. Maybe abit of dumb luck not getting Tomlinson and missing out on Curnow or Harry and missing Shiel (though I think he’s recruitment was more about development for our team and that can not be measured) but I think not making big mistakes is extremely important and he has done that really well.
(and yes I know we might look back in hindsight and this look stupid if a few of our promising kids are busts)

There's been a lot of chicken little type posting in this thread of late.

A combination of that and the conspiracy theorists taking the opportunity to jump on this as well.

I think SOS has done a great job over the past few years, he has set our list up very nicely for the future. If he isn't at the club next year, however that has come about then so be it, the club won't collapse due to an employee moving on.

Good luck if SOS moves elsewhere.....

He'll be raiding our talent and playing hardball on any trades with us.

He will be doing the job he's paid to do by whoever employs him next, as he has with us and GWS.

As far as raiding our talent goes are people really worried about that? How many of GWS' top-end talent has he managed to land while at Carlton? Zero. (This isn't a criticism of him but I'd be very surprised if any of our top talent left at this stage).

There is a lot of overreaction occurring here.
