I agree with much of what you say but if SOS was inferring that there was a problem because Matt LLoyd's brother was our head of footy that is a petty response to a petty comment and doesn't do him any service.

The funny thing about this interview on FC even being brought up in relation to the current issue is that the interview took place in 2018,Lloyd was not at Carlton at that time. At the best someone is drawing a very long bow here.

This thread has become embarrassing, people are just inventing things to suit their own narrative now.

It has shown though that the messiah complex is well and truly alive amongst BF Carlton supporters.

As usual most of the angst on this board comes supporters getting into dick-measuring contests with opposition supporters :

- "SOS is a genius"
- "We WILL get Papley/Martin/Conglio"
- "Sheil is done deal"

and then having melt when it doesn't happen along the lines of "How dare Liddle (or SOS) make me look like an idiot on BigFooty !!"

I cannot believe this
SOS is at the heart of the club
Sounds as though its a done deal though,he is gone?
Will this effect JSOS or Ben long term?
This another example of CFC self destruction
Board/Heads.....non harmony
If dispute was over Eddie.....then are we seeing an impolsion over if you like minor details at this stage?
SOS must have had enough of the CFC....and his sons may follow,i guess SOS was never set in stone at CFC and people believe that

You've summed it up quite nicely imho.
A few on here clearly have an agenda and have no real issue with fabricating "facts" in order to validate their own personal perspective.

That would make sense.
Lloyd needs to focus on his new job leave SOS and Agresta the F alone.
If that’s true, it still appears to come back to Liddle; he’s publicly put on the List Manager/Recruiter hat, it wouldn’t surprise if Lloyd has followed suit.

If list management and recruiting is done by committee to the extent that it now appears to be, why the need for a Senior List Management in the first place? They may as well have CEO and Footy Manager making list management and recruiting decisions; with a team of admin officers furnishing them the necessary info.

I don't wish to see SOS go. He was the man who architect the rebuild from scratch and made the tough decision that others would not.
He has set is up so well that other teams will copy our rebuild strategies in the future.
With every list manager there are hits and misses draft, trade, free agents, contracts but overall he has been a success.

If the CEO wishes for more accountability, the CEO therefore cannot become involved in trades, draft ect.. at a list management level.
This in itself it assuming the responsibility and accountability for decisions made. examples being Betts, Ellis

I do think Liddle is a good CEO but you cant have your cake and eat it too.

John Nicholls was the heart and soul of the club and he left the club in 1975 and the club survived- Alex Jesaulenko left the club in 1980 and the club survived.

The club will survive SOS’s departure- the opportunity for us now is to find an even better List/Recruiting Manager.

But it highlighted the fact that Stephen was reporting directly to the board at the time and contrary to messiah rumours he had no part in major decisions.

An organisation should always be on the lookout to improve at every opportunity- this situation is no exception.

Agree - is anyone asking the question "Can we get a better List Manager than SOS" - I'm sure Liddle is (even though I actually think SOS's departure is more his own decision.).

Again, I have some contacts in the industry who speak so highly of Liddle - said he will leave no stone unturned getting the best people in to do the job and make the club better.

The only players that were on the list pre SOS are required players or will be retiring in the coming years.

From this point forward SOS will be making list decisions solely on players he has targetted. Every change will be an indirect suggestion of a mistake, and I'm not sure SOS is the type to readily admit failure. There will inevitably be friction as he will back his past judgement at times over the direction the new regime may wish to go.

Our draft picks should continue to be pushed out from here on in, so a more astute approach to how we treat our late picks will be needed.

If we win a premiership over the next 5 years it'll be on the back of the list SOS has put together. Perfect time for him to now leave given our offseasons are entering a new phase.

Similarly, is anyone asking the question “Can we get a better CEO than Liddle”?

The way organisations are supposed to work is this:

- Board / president / chair sets the vision and direction for the club / corporation / whatever.

- CEO / MD is responsible for delivering on that vision and direction. That's literally what Chief Executive Officer means: the chief officer of those executing the actual work.

If SOS was appointed by the board and/or reporting directly to the board then that's a problem, because the CEO is supposed to have ultimate responsibility for delivering the vision but there's a part of the delivery that's not under his control. Liddle would be completely within his rights to insist that SOS report through ordinary channels that go through him. (Not saying that's what happened, but if it did then it would be entirely appropriate on Liddle's part.)

Personalities can complicate things (of course) -- even if everyone is completely professional there can be times when two people just don't click for whatever reason. Not necessarily a sign of ego or incompetence or whatever. And if there is a personality problem, you address it by dealing with the people involved, not by sacrificing good governance.
I don’t have an issue with SOS reporting to Liddle. My issue was with him reporting to Lloyd.

So we should populate the administration with wealthy fans because effective administrators will just leave later?
I did not say that, that is you twisting the argument like a Herald Sun Journalist. The direction of my argument was that a club needs a balance of long term supporters and outside administrators. SOS not only has an elite track record that no one else can match but will fight for the place because it is his birthland. It is a very patronising small minded perspective to insinuate that SOS is just a wealthy fan. You can add Matheson and the Pratts to that list

Despite being unhappy with sos leaving I would be happy for Beatson to replace him.

I really do hope the club has a plan in place with someone of equal standard as SOS who is one of the best in the league

I suspect finishing off the job SOS has done already would be quite appealing.
