Sorry to intrude on your board but I spent 1/2 hr chatting to Jake recently. Great guy and loves everything about your club. Enthusiastic, loves living in Geelong and loves the Club setup. I hope he has a big year. He seems a ripper.

showed a bit year one.... the future is in his hands cause there will be openings

Tarca's first year was as expected for a late pick. Needed development. Importantly he improved game by game.
He along with Ablett and Miers has goal sense. Loves to kick them and backs himself. Compare with Dahlhaus and Atkins who play different roles. Tarca adds a bit of aerial too.

Tarca has his chance next season to put his hand up. Needs a big preseason (his first full one). No reason he shouldn't push on.

He showed flashes like a young Linc McCarthy. Obviously the challenge is to turn the flashes into something more consistent. This time last year no one had Miers playing a game let alone 25 of them.

The closest thing I have to a 'boy' from the 2018 draft. I think he's an interesting prospect if he can use his aerial ability more consistently, but that's not an easy ask for a small guy.

Getting rid of Tarcs after one year is like getting rid of Miers after the same time period.

Both short sighted and foolish.

Let the kids develop ffs
But I guess that clearing that list spot Miers was clogging up would have helped us out a bunch

Miers seemed to show a bit more in his first year, based solely, that said, on match reports.

However, most of that draft (Jarvis, Tarca, Kennerley, Brownless) picked up super-skinny kids who just do not have AFL-ready bodies yet.

And thus.. time..

Less than 10 touches and 1 goal per game. He's not yet serviceable at vfl level and has shown heaps less than Miers. Yeah all our kids are stars though I guess..

Jesus let the kid develop he has time
Nup - they either star from day 1 at the club or it's clear that are useless hacks are just taking up an important list spot

Am I doing that whole criticism & melting thing right?

Um who is saying we should get rid of him after one year?

Even as a fan of Tarca I don't see why we would shy away from the idea that his first year wasn't hugely impressive. I think he could improve and become an interesting prospect, but lets not pretend that would be reasonable to expect - odds are that, just like most kids, he won't make it. It's still pretty impressive to get to this stage tbh.

As indicated by others, a little early to judge other than to say needs more time, fitness and development.

Having said that, Jake has displayed some attributes that gives me hope -
- pretty quick over distance as on show in the GF sprint (was ‘in it’ right till last 10 metres). The key is acceleration over first 5-10 metres, but still rather encouraging.
- at times showed that can hit up passes pretty neatly.
- in some games showed some neat crumbing, and goal snapping. As a small forward will ready need to get to the 2-3 a game level at VFL, next season or two.

Didn’t see much evidence of tackling intensity - will need to show that.

The essential requirement will be building the tank and staying uninjured, but looks like a few facets to build on.

As a related point - I would like to see Geelong bring in a specialist small forward coach to master class on the art - even for a month or two.
