Martin for 1 mil in his first year, 400K a year for 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, average $550 a year and not giving up valuable picks?
Very happy with that deal

It is interesting to highlight that, statistically at least, the outputs of Martin/Ellis aren't as far apart as you'd think from reading this board.
*Inb4 I get accused of saying Ellis is better* Martin is definitely the more naturally gifted of the two.View attachment 777770

Check out the contested possession stats. Ellis has the ball uncontested about 72% of the time. Martin about 53% of the time.exquisite skills with a 17% lower disposal efficiency, its like Golf right, where its the lower the better, isn't it?

Went through the last 8 drafts, pick 24 has a much better strike rate than 30, as you would expect.![]()
Dees, Cats, Giants and other potential trades in the draft
Melbourne's pick eight shapes as one that could be traded during the national draft for two later selections, in one of several trades that are still being canvassed.www.theage.com.au
Interesting it says Cats offered us Pick 14 and Pick 30 for 9 which we rejected.
If they come back with 14 and 24 is probably accept
Not sure what my opinion is worth BUTWent through the last 8 drafts, pick 24 has a much better strike rate than 30, as you would expect.
Not sure we are desperate for multiple picks anymore, it is likely to be quality over quantity from now on. 3-4 years ago was a much different story. Reckon we would take some convincing to drop another 5+ spots (likely to be some Academy bids around these picks) unless we had other plans to on-trade the extra pick.
Well that's it. Having this huge amount of money, instead of spending it on Coniglio, Papley and Martin and trading away all of our picks.
We can use our massive cap space to price out other teams and bring Martin in for free which means we keep all our first round picks and next year's second which is going to be really valuable.
The opening of the salary cap has certainly brought us something good even if it wasn't in the way we all expected it to be.
Pick 9 turns out to be a gun, Martin becomes the player we all think he can be for us and next years first and second result in really good player/s coming to the club then we are going to be laughing.
I think there are a lot of people who will still see our trade period as a fail but long term it will likely be looked back at something that worked out for the best, that's if it works out this way. Can quite easily see next years first going for Papley after Essendon lose Daniher for chicken feed next season.
In a lot of ways this is the free hit and priority pick we missed out on last year that we have needed.

Haha pay that.exquisite skills with a 17% lower disposal efficiency, its like Golf right, where its the lower the better, isn't it?

No. Your in a crap team, in a crap culture, where you don't really want to be...we have no idea what his upside is. All of a sudden he's in a system that he has good players around him, and the pressure is off....similar to Eddie being surrounded by Tex and Seagull and not much else.Averaging 19 disposals a game and a goal against the weaker teams in the competition, is not tearing these teams apart, bit of a reach don't you think?
Dare say Martin was under a little more pressure at the time though...exquisite skills with a 17% lower disposal efficiency, its like Golf right, where its the lower the better, isn't it?

Martin has nominated for the PSD only.
Everything looks as though it has lined up nicely for us to get him for free.
....and we traded out the guy whO maSerminded the heiStAssuming we get Martin in the PSD, we will have paid around pick 65 on average for each of those four players (Betts, Pittonet, Newnes, Martin).
If there was a highway, it would have been robbed...

It's actually picks 14 and 36....which will probably creep to somewhere around pick 40 after the academy boys, f/s's etc.![]()

Cant argue with any of that. One touch, good skills. A deficit currently. Will be a big asset if it all plays out as anticipatedWhenever we are coming up to play GC there is always one player I check to see if they are playing and its Jack Martin.
Dont look at his whole career as its been with a side that regularly gets thumped. Look at his games against other poor teams. Its when gold coast play evenly matched teams like Carlton, its Martin's class that tears these teams apart.
He averages 19 disposals and a goal per game against Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon, Fremantle, North, St Kilda, Bulldogs in what have been mostly competitive games over the course of his career.
I look forward to see what he can do as a 25 year old in a Carlton team on the rise in 2020.He wont be the player making a bad team good, but if he gets to us and we are as good as we are thinking we are going to be, I think he will be the danger man for us.
One lot have had their brains fried from spending too much time on the beach while the other lot have had their brains frozen from spending too much time in the snow.gc and melbourne supporters still dont understand it![]()
That’s less than is being reported though. It’s just over $3 million for 5 years which works out at just over $600K a year. Just over $1 million in the first year and then $500K for the next 4. We’ve got the cap space and would be able to go to 105% of cap next year so we can afford it. It’s a lot of money though. Worth it for the trade cost and the fact we will lose the 105% cap threshold if we don’t use it.Martin for 1 mil in his first year, 400K a year for 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, average $550 a year and not giving up valuable picks?

17 & 24 ?Not sure what my opinion is worth BUT
I lost interest in our version of the draft after Taylor was taken at 28. That’s where the ‘backable’ talent ended for mine. Really speculative after that. Or meh.
So no wonder Cats offered a pick in the 30s and no wonder we didn’t want it.
