Ok, I’m really confused.

What the hell do we make of Miles Bergman? I’ve watched a lot of him now. Like A LOT. And quite frankly WHEN he does something - he’s THE best player in the draft.

Let me say that again. WHEN Miles Bergman is involved in the game he’s THE BEST player in the draft.

Why?

Well let’s see. He doesn’t ever fumble. He has beautiful hands. Terrific mark. At 189 with long arms and huge leap he’s a great mark. He’s super fast. He kicks it, what SIXtY? Easy. And hits targets. He makes good decisions. The bloke is lethal. Absolutely lethal. Classic Arrow player.

So why isn’t he higher? He doesn’t get the ball. 14 possessions a game for a wing/half forward. Ok so I wrote him off due to that.

BUT he’s had multiple stress fractures and shin splints. Which must have savagely affected his training. Apparnelty this year could barely train between games due to that.

So.....is he: Gary Rohan or Patrick Dangerfield???

Honestly there seems no reason why he can’t get ‘fit enough’ for AFL. He’s all over things amazing.

So. He’s my new favourite toy. I want him badly. Like as a footballer I mean.

Another interesting and entertaining windows post.

Matthew Lloyd who coaches Hailebury college said he was the best talent in the draft. Wonder if he could develop midfield capabilities once he gets over the injuries.

Just wonder whether Bergman will be the Fyfe of this draft. “How the hell did he last that long.” In juniors for moment it’s as much about what they do wrong as what they do right.

Would we back the ability to build a tank into Bergman Vs back making Serong faster and teach him decision making and execution by foot?

If it’s true Doggies are keen on Bergman we wouldn’t get him with the geelong trade as they have the pick before

We need to be doing everything we can to try and add to #9 in order to pry #14 and #17 from Geelong so that we get another bite of the cherry in this years top 20.

They'd probably ask for next years first round pick though.

The whole, should we or should we not, put next years 1st on the table will really polarise posters here.
I feel if we did, we'd likely not attain much more than a ~ pick #15 for it, on its own.

Pity we don't have polls asking all sorts of different questions in regards to the draft. May have to throw one up myself...maybe.

#9 for #14 + #17 is a surplus of #27
#9 + #43 for #14 + #17 is a surplus of #46

They need to pay to move up. There is no way we're adding a future 1st in there.

Just from a points perspective.....say we trade pick 9 and future 2nd to Cats for picks 14 and 17.

Pick 9 + pick (around) 26 = 2,198 points
Pick 14 + pick 17 = 2,186

No way we should be offering 1st round pick in any deal involving 14 and 17.....given we were willing to give up a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the Martin trade, you'd imagine that they would potentially be on the table for any trade that would benefit us.

Why do we need to split pick 9 and get more points when we don't have any decent academy picks coming up for the foreseeable future ?

What real benefit do we get ? This draft does fall away quite after pick 12 or so apparently.

I think it depends on who is still available on the draft night at #9 and a need type of question.
If the players that are still there don't offer that much of a step up (quality) or need for us, then it would be better to have two go at the next group than pick #9 and then #43, as the gap is too far.

It's not about getting more points, it's about getting an extra player.
The points are just a guide for what is a reasonable trade.

Ah okay, that explanination makes sense now, didn't realize our next pick after 9 was 43. Cheers.

The points don't need to add up.

Three teams are keen, hold the pick until draft night and we if the player they want is there, they offer their next two picks or miss out.

All these teams want us help land them a top 10 player and even out later picks. Nah, 10 & 22, 12 & 16, 14 & 17, 15 & 20 or happily add another top 10 prospect.

We're surely not desperate, even with no trade we've added 3 guys we rated top 10 from 2 first rounders - time to be ruthless as other teams are

At 7:15 mark it's mentioned that Caleb Serong actually trained at the Blues this year as part of an AFL scholarship, so we may already have some insight into his ability.

Will be interesting to see what we do if we does fall to our pick given some phantom drafts rank him in the top 5 (outside of this forum at least).

Remember that so did Kemp
