Went to the Super Bowl in Feb 2015 - New England vs Seattle in Phoenix. Ticket back then cost A$3,600- and was on the lower level in an end zone corner.

The greatest sporting experience ever (inc the couple of days up to it). Just amazing and a memory you won’t forget.

I am heading to America for a bit over 2 weeks in early January. Flying in and out of LA.

LA - 3 nights
Vegas - 3 nights
San Francisco - 5 nights
6 nights TBC
LA - 1 night

My questions:

1) I haven't been to LA in well over 15 years. Best area to stay?

2) Vegas. When I went I stayed at Caesar's. Happy to fork out to stay there again, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

3) 6 nights TBC. Really not sure where to go, but am wanting to stay away from anywhere too cold. Thinking New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, Nashville. I've done Austin so don't want to go there this time around. Looking at splitting the 6 nights in two places.

Any thoughts?

Nashville and Memphis can still be cold even in January. Was there last in November and it snowed in Memphis!

Slowly working thru staying at all the casinos on the Vegas Strip. Bellagio is good as is Paris - central location on the Strip together with Caesars and Planet Hollywood.

Post about the whole experience if you can.. absolute bucket list stuff for me. I guess I'd rather spend the coin on a 4 week trip atm.

Haha yeah I went through Memphis on a tour last Jan... snow everywhere. It was a ghost town for 2 days. Only saw people in the bars on Beale at night. Had to cancel our Graceland and Sun Studios tour as they weren't prepared for the snow.

Will be a s**t load as I'm going to have to go through stub hub or the NFL ticket exchange etc. It's the only way unfortunately, and I've been aware of it for a long time but it's a once in a life time experience. Two if you're lucky enough.

That is ******* awesome! And that ticket is cheap compared to what they are nowas each year the price goes up and up. Had a mate pay just over 2k years back and I thought that was a lot. Your superbowl was a ******* awesome one and a very famous for Seattle not running the ball through Lynch obviously. What an ending. I think there was another guy on here who went and paid 4k or more, unless that was you.

Bought mine via NFL Ticket Exchange in Dec 2014 and was a bucket list item. Didn’t know who was going to be in it and the cherry on top was seeing the NE Pats play. It was a classic game and I was up the other end and didn’t know what was happening in that last few seconds - just heard a roar.

Even for some of the biggest sports fans in the US, going to a game to see their side play live is a rare luxury if they don't have season tickets to begin with.
It's something to do maybe once a season to treat themselves... pay something like $75-$150 USD per ticket for just a regular season game.

Following the game on TV either at home or amongst fans at a bar is just a much cheaper and not to mention easier option given the lack of good public transportation at many sports venues in the U.S. Remember Waverley after a game? … many venues in the U.S. are just like that after a game... taking an hour to get the car out of the bloody car park!

In Melbourne at least... following the AFL means either going to MCG/Marvel or staying at home to watch on TV... outside of finals, going to a pub during the day to catch a game is not as popular as you might think... I can think of many times stepping to a pub in Melbourne for a Saturday/Sunday arvo and seeing just two men and a dog at a bar catching whatever game was on... compared to stepping inside a sports bar in the U.S. on a Sunday during the NFL season where the place is fairly packed.

Keep an eye on it
Prices will fluxuate vastly depending on whos in the running

I went to Super Bowl 51 in Houston.
Early on in the playoffs, prices were through the roof as Houston were in the playoffs and Dallas was the #1 seed.
Fast forward 2 weeks and prices had dropped a bit.
Next minute - Atlanta knocks out Green Bay and they drop again.
 
Looking like this will be my trip in April.

LA- 2 nights
Vegas- 3 nights
SanFran- 4 nights
New Orleans- 3 nights
LA- 1 night then fly home

Why are you staying in la an extra night at the end. Seems very inefficient. Particularly given flights back to aus all leave in the evening. And why fly all the way to new orleans for 3 days and then back to the west coast again. Half your trip is airports and planes.

Nawlens, way more fun, party city, better weather, can go cruising out to the swamps to see some Gators

Seattle is a bit bland in comparison, Pike market is a bit overrated, space Needle will have meh views if it's likely to rain
 
Contrary to what most people say, I have found Americans to be very knowledgeable about the world outside and well-travelled. My son's inlaws are from Minneapolis and absolutely love Europe (visit twice a year) and want to go to Oz soon. I went to MN to meet them and they wanted to know all about Oz. They had no problem at all with the accent and love our humour. We went to MN in late March and temps were still about minus 5

Minneapolis is one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Looking forward to being back there in April.

To be honest, minus 5 in late-March is quite warm. Snow through until May isn't uncommon.

Heading to both New Orleans and Nashville for 3 nights each. Never been to either, so if anyone has any recommendations, be it food, drink, museum, safety etc. I am all eyes!

Depends what you're looking for in NOLA. I stayed at an AirBnB on the other side of Canal St and it was a bit of a culture shock. The nice areas are really good though. Pretty cool seedy bars around the place if that's what you're looking for. Haven't been to Frenchman St but heard it's a bit nicer and upperclass as opposed to Bourbon.

Nashville looks great I'd love to get there.

Not a party animal by any stretch so I'll stay away from the clubs but do enjoy the bar scene. Staying in the French Quarter.
